A Festus the Leechlord I painted for a commission. For the swamp base I inverted the normal 25mm base painted and flocked it and added water effect.

He's cute! I like his multitudes of poxes and boils!
Nice wet effects, too.

The wet base effects are good, but overall the model doesn't have anything extraordinary to impress me. Weepy pus-y plague effects are very common, and while they play very well the first time you see them, i think they get very old very quickly, and character models like this can benefit from having a unique detail that viewers are unlikely to have seen before.
Nevertheless, the most important part of a commission is pleasing the customer, and I assume they were quite happy? (Thank you for being up front about being a commission painter, by the way. I hate being surprised with that.) The model was done with a great degree of technical skill, make no mistake about that, and I'm sure whoever paid for it got their money's worth.

Well, you kinda have to be able to do weepy pus effects when painting Nurgle...I suppose you could do horrendous blackheads instead of boils, though it would be really hard to pull off.

Very good but I would have whacked a bit of red and blue-grey in there for sore bits and necrosis.

Great job, I'm sure the customer was happy. I voted 9, due to the fact that 5 is avg painter 6-7 intermediate 8-9 advanced 10 pro level. So you are a high advanced painter/modeler by "my" rating table which is very good and I would definitely consider/recommend you for commission work.

Well, it's not exactly a science. Don't hold back from voting on stuff here for that reason, pick the number that feels right to you and go with it.

Without having to necessarily avoid to bog-standard [rimshot] Nurgle tropes, I think a touch more variation would have done the model good. What's there is rather well executed; it's what's missing that makes the result good, but not great - higher contrast in the skin, a few subtle color shifts (greys, browns, purples, etc.) to add variety to the rot and irritation, and the like. Still, it's a solid effort, all around, and as a commission painter, you often have to limit the effort you put into a piece in concert with the asking price. If I didn't pay top dollar for the work, I'd likely be perfectly satisfied.

I can't make a judgement without better pictures. Right now, I'm stuck between tiny thumbnails that don't show off any detail or gigantic, high-ISO blurry pictures. And the color balance is wrong on them as well (as evidenced by the peach color background), and I'm sure a lot of the gross factor from the model comes from the color contrast, which is currently getting washed out by balance issues. The pictures are also a little dark as well.
You're probably losing out on 2, or maybe three points of rank from me just because I can't accurately see what's going on.

How about dry, scaly psoriasis? Or thready black spider veins?
I understand your client had a specific look in mind, and I hardly expect you to foist MY desires down the throat of YOUR paying customers. I'm just saying that there's lots of aesthetic variety that falls under the 'diseased' heading, and within the hobby, there's a derth of variety in the way Nurglish models are represented.
Sorry if I came off like a wiener.

Those are great ideas. Thanks. No problem.
As far as the pictures go those are the best pics of a mini I've ever taken so I'll keep trying.

I really like this model, he's also painted very well but the green tinged skin puts me off a little. Thats personal preference of course, I'm sure the customer was very happy.

If I do any more of Festus or any Nurgle character I'd like to experiment with normal flesh tones that are "sick". This was my first go and it was for someone else so I was conservative with my experimentation. Thanks for the feedback.
