I don't have the book on hand but I have a few questions regarding the allying rules.

1: Regarding marines / battle brothers if an alliance is made does the detachment as a whole benefit from chapter tactics?

2: is there a minimum of an ally you need to bring, or is it only a limited to a maximum i.e 1hq 1 troop 1 other

3: I can't remember what 3 was ><

This forum can get in trouble for just churming out rulebook quotes but to answer in a vague way that might still help:

1) "The detatchment as a whole"? When you have allies you'll have a "Primary Detatchment" and an "Allied Detatchment", and I believe the Chapter Tactics states it only applies per detatchment and not per army? (I don't have the book so can't exactly say). So you can have an Iron Hands primary, with a Dark Angels or Salamanders (etc.) allied detatchment, and the two Chaper Tactics will only apply to models from that detatchment. Does that make sense?

2) There is a minimum, as well as a maximum. The chart is on page 109 of the BRB for when you get a chance to look.

The reason I ask for the first because moloc's special rules regarding chapter tactics says you have to choose which chapter tactics you wish to use in an army if others are present. The only way I can imagine there being others to choose from is that of allies. I guess there must just be for if you take a jumble of like, ultramarine and sally characters within the same primary detachment then. Thats a shame though. I was hoping I could take allies and just have them dressed up the same as my main army in which they would even benifet from chapter tactics and such so it looked and is at least fluff wise of the same chapter. I still can though the chapter tactic is quite a theme throughout I would like to keep!

I'll take a look for that when I get the opportunity to!

Moloc is a FW character yes? FW haven't (as far as I know) updated / errata'd their rules to take into account the way that the new SM Codex does things, so we're still waiting to see how they will interact properly.

For the SM 'dex, if you choose a primary detatchment tactic of "Ultramarines", you can't take any non-ultramarine chapter tactics special characters in that primary detatchment (which is why the SM 'dex allows you to ally with the SM 'dex - different chap tacts in the same army but not detatchment).
