It would be better if you could narrow down your selection, Action or Adventure, RPG,
If you want a fun time consuming game. I suggest Sanctum. A tower defense FPS

Mount and Blade Warband. Make your own lore up as you go around raising your own army destroying everything before you or play one of the thousands of mods for it. Easily one of my favourite and most played games of all time.

F.T.L.: Faster than Light. Game is addicting as all get-out, fairly cheap, and has a ton of replay value.
Also: start on easy. Trust me. Just start on easy.

Morrowind will keep you busy for *way* more than a month and has more lore than you can shake a Gandalf at (it's late, forgive me). However, it IS looking a little dated these days. Mods will help with this, but you have two later games in the same series that should be better - Oblivion, then Skyrim. Funnily enough, the latter is the shiniest, latest game in the series and because it's on offer it's actually cheaper than Oblivion right now.
Dragon Age: Origins is smaller than an Elder Scrolls game but of much greater moment-by-moment quality thanks to things like better voice acting, really dynamic and visually engaging combat and (in my opinion) more engaging characters. So this is also worth looking into.

In that case, you already know how big and expansive they are, and if you're considering Morrowind it's because you loved them. Go get it.
If you're THAT on-the-ball with your lore, you'll spot things happening and think "hey, didn't I read about this in a book already?"
