Hey all,

I wanted to try a psyker-heavy army. I've always liked Tzeentch, but I didn't want to play a MEQ army (we have enough of those in my group as it is), so Tzeentch Daemons seemed like a reasonable choice.

The heralds go with the horrors, and the MC's fly around buffing themselves and wrecking stuff. Grimoire is for casting on the LoC to improve his survivability.

This list's primary opponents would be Necrons and Mono-Khorne Chaos Space Marines (no Heldrake). I'm a primary Ork player, so going this light on troops feels weird to me, and at the same time, I don't want to be that guy who spams nothing but fliers. I guess my two main questions are:

1.) Is this list viable?
2.) Does it excessively stink of flier cheese?

Any and all comments/ constructive criticism are welcome.

HQ:
Lord of Change w/ Level 3, Staff of Change, and two Greater Gifts - 305pts
Herald of Tzeentch w/ Level 2, Conjuration Locus, Grimoire of True Names - 125pts
Herald of Tzeentch w/ Level 2, Conjuration Locus - 95pts

Troops:
20 Pink Horrors - 180pts
20 Pink Horrors - 180pts

Heavy Support:
Daemon Prince of Tzeentch w/ Level 3, Wings, and Warp-Forged Armor - 305pts
Daemon Prince of Tzeentch w/ Level 3, Wings, and Warp-Forged Armor - 305pts

Total: 1495pts

Edit: Fixed the incorrect total.

You should try to find the points to give all your FMC's the lesser gift. This will give you the ability to take the staff of change on all of them making them str8. you wouldnt have to worry about smashing at that point, just hit them with your big sticks.

I'd consider breaking the 2 sets of horrors into 3 or 4. I recently had the problem of not enough scorers left because I used 2 large squads of daemons instead of several small ones. You get the same number of dice, and yes they get more Denies but if he does it its to 2d6 not 4d6.

Reducing the horrors to 19 each would be enough, since the list is 5 points short to begin with. Plus, 9 is Tzeentch's sacred number, so that's all fluffy and stuff.

40 Horrors and he says light on troops... that's an ork player for you.

Its not super flier cheese, specially not at 1500 points, if your opponent hasn't brought enough to down 3 FMCs at that points value, not your list building at fault. I wholeheartedly agree with cutting down the horror sizes as it adds a bit of redundancy, also if going mono tzeentch consider a portalglyph, remembering that a single horror brought in through the glyph generates 10 horrors worth of shots. Watching your opponent play whack a mole with 6 units of 1 horror is something truly hilarious.

Last but not least... no fateweaver?

I mean really?

A re-roll on the grimoire? being able to have a modicum of control over that damned warp storm table? and he;s not exactly a slouch in the psyker department. Also, 5 points cheaper then your LoC.

Whats not to love?

Tbh the list you have is perfectly viable, just some advice ive garnered through trouncing my best mates Imperial guard with my daemons... he really hates horrors...

At 1500 it is standard to bring enough to take down 3 fmc....

I agree with danp Fateweaver brings far more to the table than a LoC with the reroll every player turn and warp storm reroll he is an auto include in all of my lists. I'd also make the squads of horrors more separated out in 4 units of 11 if you can get the points. It will help you because you can then reserve the squads without heralds so your opponent doesn't get at least five turns to shoot them

Fateweaver is indeed amazing; I just have a thing against running special characters. Not necessarily for game balance reasons, but just from a fluff point of view (using generic characters makes the army feel more like mine).

What would be the best way to reconcile removing 2 horrors (to fit in a staff of change for both daemon princes) with splitting the units apart? Four units isn't doable with 38 horrors, but two units of 13 and one unit of 12 is.

Is that worth doing even though one of the units would not have a conjuration locus herald in it (meaning no divination buff and S5 instead of 6)?

Run two squads of 10 and the extra in a different squad to give an extra d6 of shots with insulation. If you are dropping a few horrors to take staffs you will be losing a d6 of shots.
