Trygon (A great nids player at our club has a nice philosophy on trygons, 1 will die, 2 will survive, and 3 will wreck face)

I know that I have a lot of points tied up into reserves and could easily get screwed over by reserve rolls but the damage potential of 3 trygons up close is just too good to pass up (maybe drop 2 stealers for hive commander on the flyrant to get more accurate reserves?). I like to combo deathleaper with doom to get a few more wounds onto that one unit I really need dead since deathleaper can drop a squads LD. (And he isn't half bad in combat either being able to go wherever he wants from reserves and rending on 5+ can really annoy a tanks bsck armour and since he has stealth/shrouded he should almosy always have a 2+ cover if played right. Not to mention he is a pain to be around when assaulting through cover.)

Thoughts? This seems like it could do well against most armies (might have trouble against white scars but unless your daemons or orks what doesn't these days).

Wherever they tell me

I remember your doubles tournament thread, so I'm not going to argue the Flyrant on this one

This is a very different list, and I actually don't have any comments on what you should change. You obviously don't want to run a cookie cutter list, and I don't blame you.

Instead, I'll comment on your tactics

Don't reserve the Trygons. Nids used to be a fantastic null (or near null) deployment style army. That's just not the case anymore. With the advent of interceptor and the inability to assault from reserves we really got hurt. Instead what I'd do is run your tri^2 gons on one side of the field. Don't forget they're fleet, so they're faster than you think.

Infiltrate your genestealers outside of synapse and in cover, and send them to ground immediately once your opponent starts shooting at them. Try to get them on the same side that your trygons will go to. Your Flyrant is fast enough to jump up and put them in your synapse bubble on your turn. This will make them fearless and they'll stand back up, ready to assault.

Your Flyrant is going to be a deathstar hunter. Nothing else in your army can really take out any deathstars, and the Flyrant is still even going to need help. Best case scenario you charge in your genestealers with him.

These combined should let you herd your opponent into perfect position for Doom to come in.

Lastly, this strategy may leave your Tervigons vulnerable, but if your feeling bold deploy your Tervigons on the other side of your Trygons. The reason for this is to create a two-pronged hit. However, if your opponent has enough output to kill your Tervigons then don't do this.

Hope all that helps

Devourer hive tyrants are always better. No question...

Your genestealers will die. Ymgarl genestyealers do a better job. Same goes for the deathleaper.

I prefer mawlocs over trygons. Mawlocs can burrow first turn and deepstrike all at the same time turn two. Their S6 ap2 template hits on rear armor and can really do a number on expensive infantry with armor 2/3. With rage and/or smash those mawlocs can also hurt a lot of stuff in close combat. I also love the fact that the can denied objectives last turn when the pop up and also claim linebreaker.

I really like the list. I have started toying around with bringing genestealers (to bring the Broodlord) and use the G2G trick to weather lots of fire.

I think you would get a lot of use out of a Armored shell Tyrant with a guard (for CC). Flyrant is just too easy to take down and the 2+ save in CC is great to bounce those power weapon wounds off. He's a little slow, but roll Biomancy for Warp Speed and you've got Fleet for additional speed.

My most recent variant on your list doesn't have the Trygons and fills in Swarmlord, 2 Zoans, 2 Hive guard, 2 Biovores, and a flock of Gargoyles.

Update us on the how it plays! I've never used 3 Trygons but I can totally see how they'll give opponents trouble!

I think that this list will have quite a lot of trouble against WS spam lists and Necron air force, but hopefully in these situations you'll be able to control their movement with the genestealers and spawned gants....hopefully :-)

Fortunately for me the closest we got to to WS spam is taudar and I'm the only competitive crons player around our area

I like the idea about the burrowing mawlocs so I think I will upgrade one trygon to a prime for some synapse and swap the other 2 for mawlocs for some gunline busting (silly tau) and toss some TS on the tervigons for the buff to my gants.

Why do you need synapse? Theirs nothing in you list that really needs synapse apart from the guants but the will keep close to the tervigons anyway. Trygons are not really feared anymore. The face problems against wraithknights, Chaos Daemon MC's and even riptides. But Mawloc's can also 'hit and run' and with them you got better board control. Only thing I dont like is the fact that Mawloc's got no 'fleet' so you really need to drop them close for a second turn assault.

Ok do 3 mawlocs to really mess up gunlines, with the leftover points I could drop the TS on one tervigon the extra gant off both squads of gants and a stealer from each stealer squad to pick up 5 ymgarls. How does that sound?

Mawlocs are fantastic as they can land in the middle of your opponents army and distract them while the tervgons plant themselves on objectives. They are great for killing scoring units as well.

If you go 2nd they are even better as you can set them up to deepstrike on top of objectives and contest with them.

My buddy convinced me to use them at nova and I can't tell you how many games they won me.

The more and more I hear about their deep striking threat the more I start to love them (and if ebay is loving me enough I might be able to be able to bring this to the renegade GT)

I was using a buddies for nova, and I was able to snipe 2 off ebay the week after, but I am having a difficult time finding that 3rd one to use in 2k events.
