hmm .. okay ....

The poor man really has a stake in the country. The rich man hasn't; he can go away to New Guinea in a yacht. The poor have sometimes objected to being governed badly; the rich have always objected to being governed at all
We love our superheroes because they refuse to give up on us. We can analyze them out of existence, kill them, ban them, mock them, and still they return, patiently reminding us of who we are and what we wish we could be.

I wonder if the clockwork dragon entry has anything to do with reaper's dragon from their last kickstrter?

It's from the final mod of the Shattered Star AP, Dead Heart of Xin. Mind you, Wyrmgear was spoiled for a good long time before DHoX was released, so not sure if it's coincidental or Paizo cashing in on the model.

Not even glanced at any of the Mythic rules stuff.

Any comments on it ?

I'm not interested in Mythic.

To quote a pathfinder booth dude at GenCon: "Did you ever want to play Hercules and crush the heads of dragons together in a fantasy setting?"

"No." *Walked away*

<--- Hardcore like that.

I did attend their "Upcoming Works" or whatever their GenCon seminar is called where they talked about the releases for the next 12 months. I was there with 3 players from my old group. Only 2 or 3 things sounded interesting. Too much gunslinger bs, Mythic bs, and fething alien gak coming out this year. I thought about posting my notes, but lost interest in it immediately every time I thought about it. Shame, really.

That's OK. Plenty of existing stuff to do in Pathfinder.

Yes. Building on the stuff that came out in Ultimate Combat, I think.

I don't like Western stuff (gunpowder) in my fantasy RPGs. I also don't like Herculean characters. Fortunately, there are some nuggets of good coming out next year.

I'll find my notes this week. maybe.

I don't really like it mixing either, but if it becomes possible (read: easier and with less conversion work) to run a good old fashioned western game in the Pathfinder ruleset then I am excite. If it's just more of the mixing, then I'll pass... The Herculean stuff doesn't sound too fun either. I got the same vibe from Mythic that I got from Epic D&D...

Is there a theme to bestiary 4?

The first was your core monster
Second was mostly planer things
Third had a strong non-western myths theme.

What's 4 got going for it? Besides more wacky stuff to toss at your players because they are too jaded to enjoy normal stuff, or just have it all memorized and metagame against it?

Theme? Maybe. It has a lot of the Great Old Ones (Lovecraftian Elder Gods) apparently.

Bokrug, Dagon, Colours Out of Space, Elder Things, Flying Polyps, Hastur, Nightgaunts, Spawn of Yog-Sothoth, and Star-spawn of Cthulhu all made it.

I'm interested to see the entries for the astral leviathan and Grendal.

Also the "void dragon" entry gave me momentary pause.

I'm a certifiable Monster book nut job. I love them, can't get enough of them, and as a DM find them to be invaluable. I don't have time to create endless NPCs with elaborate backstories for my players to just chomp through, but an endless torrent of monsters at my finger tips pleases me endlessly. The more diabolical the better and Eldar Gods sound fun, granted, they really don't need stats. Its like having stats for the deities which is silly. Just give me a ton of lovecraft based minions to play with and I'll do the rest!

Cthulhu is CR 30 & AC 49 with 774 hit points

DC 40 will check of you're near him, fail and die. If you're immune to fear still have to save, fail and you're staggered

CR19 and Mythic Rating of 7

AC34, 340 odd HP.

He can use his special mythic powers to deal extra damage and literally pull off an arm or a leg from a grappled opponent !

Could we get a rundown on the whole Mythic thing in general? (I'll make a new thread if need be).

He's a chaotic evil monstrous humanoid (mythic) .

Most of these rules are covered in the Mythic adventures book -- no, me neither -- but there seems to be sufficient coverage in the summary at the back.

It seems to manly give them better stats, HD, HP and a few special powers.

Main one being that X times per day they can add a d4/6/8/10 -- as defined -- to a d20 roll -- and might also have other special powers.

Mythic rating appears to be a power level akin to CR, Grendel has 7, so he can use a bonus d10 7 times a day, for him this also adds onto his damage rolls.

Seems the mythic adventure book is not needed as such, you can run the beasties just from the book.

Hmm interesting but ... seemingly useless unless you start a campaign at those levels, which kind of renders it meaningless since everything is scaled anyhow.

seems to be about 25 or so mythic creatures, with standard CRs ranging from 1, 4, 9, 13, 19 to 30 odd.

Appears to be a nice range of CRs, so not essential but for me more beasties is always handy.

Be even better if they cam in a slip sleeve with a colour carded piece of art that you then had to put into a 3 ring binder. with the inevitanle difficulties this caused, but that's nostalgia for you eh ?
