They have a whole bunch of stuff I'd like to snap up in a heartbeat. I'd probably drop $200 on cool stuff right off the bat. But man, do they make it unattractive to actually order from them. For starters you have to register with the website before ordering. So I have to hand out yet another goddamn password. And they require a phone number. Yay, I just love giving that out. Why can't they just let me place an order directly through the website? They let you do this with a fax order apparently.
Bleh. It just never ends with GW.

Most websites require you to have an account these days, and phone numbers are pretty standard for ordering things now too. So I really don't get what your problem is? Its just standard procedure. (I've ordered one thing from GW, but I order alot of Paintball stuff so what you're griping about is just standard info companies need incase)

It used to be the case. But plenty of websites these days are going account-less ordering. The Warstore works this way, for example. It may seem like a minor point, but really, there's no -need- for any simple storefront like that to require your info like that. After so many years of just sending email and passwords all over the internet, this is one consumer who is kind of tired of it.
Oh yes, there's also the 15% total-order-cost shipping overhead
Edit : I really kind of wonder why they don't just open up a storefront through Amazon. Surely this would supercharge their sales. Hell, Amazon would probably figure out a way to completely hook them up and in the process get free shipping for customers.

You are complaining about every fairly standard webstore registration out there? Welcome to the internet.
I don't understand the concern with supplying your phone number to a legitimate business on their secure site. Chances are your phone number is not a closely guarded secret known only to you and a select group of your closest companions, there are probably people that you don't know that have access to your phone number. Big deal, it's a phone number. You had to supply a valid email address to sign up to Dakka and create a log in, all to complain about going to a website where you have to supply personal information and create a log in. Plus, you can mail an order in (like the good old days) or fax it in; you are basically complaining about a "problem" you can easily avoid if you choose to.
They don't need to supercharge their sales, they are a small company that seems to have every intention of staying that way. A lot of their kits, especially the large ones, are cast to order. They are kind a niche company and most of their fans like it that way.
If you want to order from them but are concerned with the shipping cost, ask around your FLGS to see if other people are interested and put together a large mixed order to get free shipping. It's a lot cheaper and they ship the items faster.

They're sending posters that have lots of problems, and they're bringing those problems with us. They're bringing strawmen. They're bringing spam. They're trolls. And some, I assume, are good people." |

International shipping is expensive. Go to the post office and try to mail an equivalent package to the UK and you'll find that 15% of the total cost of the order is probably cheaper than the real shipping cost.

sounds like someone just joined the internet...
Moet websites that will take your money will require a user name and password. And, as you stated, you have the option of ordering by fax.

Some places have the "guest" ordering so you don't have to make an account, but phone/e-mails are standard procedure even with those. Let's say anything doesn't go smooth with your order, anything. Wouldn't you like to have the possibility for FW or anywhere else to call/e-mail you and say, "something screwed up with your order and...." Instead of not having a clue? Well, if you think their website and ordering stipulations are unattractive, wait until you see the fit and finish of their products.
For several hundred dollars you would think the parts would not be warped beyond repair and would fit together with minimal gaps.
But noooooo......

yeah, I hate to say it...but the topic of this made me LOL.
A large purchase from an international vendor? I don't think the requirement for an account is extreme.
But hey, I order stuff all the time.
If you are against it, see if any of your friends in the area has an account - and get a group order together to save on shipping.
My friends and I get about six free shipping orders a year...one bonus...they usually arrive in LESS than two weeks.....usually a week.
