hello all I currently play high elves and am looking for a little different army to play with and if yall can give me suggestios id really apprecitate it

1. id like it to be an army that does really well in combat and doesn't take to much skill to figure out basically good at combat but more survivable than elves

2. armies I don't like Bretts WoC and OaG but besides that im open to suggestion im currently pretty stuck on VC and Demons but am considering other armies so plese post

Ogres are the clear winner in my mind.

They are relatively inexpensive also.

I don't play them, but every game I've had against them has been a lot of fun for both generals. Hard not to like those guys.

Playing: Droids (Legion), Starks (ASOIAF), BB2
Working on: Starks (ASOIAF), Twilight Kin (KoW). Droids (Legion)

Another vote for Ogres, they seem to be what you're looking for.

IF you want a survivable comabt based army there are 3. WoC's, Ogres and Lizards.

Ogres are simply the best choice considering your desires.

Also their battalion is a awesome deal.

Then may I suggest a Elf army of some sort, both High Elfs and Dark Elfs can offer a wide varity of viabel army lists, and both armies punch very hard. Also their models do look rather fabelous if i may say so myself. And the Dark Elfs are rumored to be getting a new army book very soon.

Ahem....

Always gets me this... if you're going to go through all the effort of writing out a reply, why not actually read the question? Not trying to be an a-hole here but jeez...

As for the original poster:

You've kind of discounted the main suspects that fit your criteria. The only suggestion that hasn't been made is Brets and they are bound to get a new book sometime soon

go the total opposite of what you have and go with a dwarven army.

They're solid in combat
They got good ranged weapons
The Magic phase is..yeah not that strong, but good luck to your opponents having a spell go off.
They can get war machines like it's a freakin' factory.

Yes, you are right.

It is very hard to read a whole sentence phrased as a question, and it is totally unreasonable of me to point out your easily made, but certainly not avoided, mistake.

So in answer to the OP question: Raspberry blancmange.

Daemons seem the way to go, to be honest. WoC, Ogres and Lizards, the top three choices, are all out of the window since you either don't like them or there's many players of them at your store.

Daemons aren't as tough as the other three, but an army-wide ward save makes them tougher than elves anyway. You also have access to great close combat units like Skullcrushers and some nasty CC Characters.

VC are another good choice, since they have very good combat characters and some very powerful Special and Rare choices. Their Core is simply not very powerful though, which may dissuade you a bit.

Since it appears ogres are not an option.. go Chaos Dwarfs.

Their basic infantry isn't much more expensive than the new Dark Elves anyway. They are a small, but powerful army.

They have very good shooting but can back it up with nasty melee threats. K'daai Destroyers are the best monster in the game. 4 man units of Bull Centaurs are fast and hit hard. Their basic warriors are tough and can be stubborn if a hero joins them. Lore of Hashut is very good. You have great cheap redirectors with hobgobling Khans on wolves.

Plus... magma cannons own Ogres.

While not the easiest army to excell with, I've seen Beastmen do nasty things in close combat.

A ton of Gors w/ AHW, backed up by a Beast Banner for Strength, and with the General + BSB nearby will nearly always pass primal fury for those sweet sweet re-rolls.

This isn't actually scary until you consider the herdstone, which can potentially generate a lot of free power dice with which they can throw out spells like Miasma, and Wildform to really turn their units into meat grinders.

They also have pretty solid chaff in the form of Razorgors, Harpies, and Skrimishing Archer dudes.

Going on to your personal concerns, they have the potential to be devestating in combat, they aren't armies you dislike, and they are relatively rarely played meaning you would likely be the only Beastmen player in your store.

Yeah i played against them with My LM this weekend and I found the beastmen to be enjoyable and fun to play against. Also there combat lords when mixedwith beasts magic are potent.
