Hmm....
I almost like that gorgon - except for the stupid looking blood/ZaRex goop that they molded on. (ZaRex is a disgusting HFCS drink mix with food colorings....)

I think its too early to say that GW is going back towards more of a mature theme with their products. I agree that no boobs were put on models for a long long time, and its nice to see them try and be grittier. I hope they attempt to be more realistic in others too though.

The kids you know can afford 40k? Jesus. Nope, their parents do... Yes it does, but the type of Lamia would be a Medusa (according to the monster girl encyclopaedia). Afaik Lamia for a half human half snake type creature is the same as snake is for every type of snake. Telling someone you saw a snake last night doesn't give that much information in regards to what type of snake it was, telling someone you saw a cobra last night gives allot more information. Oh look, Monster Musume has a new update... off to read it

GW make a thousand different models and two or three of them have tiny 28mm scale breasts. It's not the world's biggest porn launch.
Furthermore, it's difficult to see how GW can shoehorn more breasts into the rest of their range, unless they do topless SoB or something.
If people want nude female 28mm figures there are plenty on the market already from Hasslefree and other companies.

The whole 'violence is more acceptable than sex' thing has been going on for years, and is only getting worse.
The ratings on violent movies have been going down and down. Did you know that when Terminator was first released, it was an 18+ (R for Americans I believe)?
Terminator 3 was released as a 12A. That's... suitable for twelve year olds at their parents' discretion.
For a more poignant reminder, they reclassified The Terminator itself to a 15 in 2000 - apparently, male nudity and bloody violence are more acceptable now.
One thing to note about the legal age of consent in Japan being 13, however - That's the national legal age. Every prefecture in Japan's local governments has set their own legal age of consent to (depending on region) 16 to 21.
Because of this double-standard, along with the male double-standard - beefcake is fine, but titties are not - it's really impossible to discuss this issue without devolving back to (giggle) boobs (giggle).
Think about it: 40k's iconic weapon is the chainsword, even more than the bolter. The chainsword, with its jagged teeth, is just about the messiest way you can kill someone in terms of blood splatter and flying gore. It doesn't leave neat little slashes like a sword or an axe, or nicely smooth-edged cleaving like a lightsaber / power weapon. It tears up the flesh, leaving it mangled, the edges puckered and shredded, and viscera coating everything in a ten metre radius.
Yet this is okay? The 2e box set, which came with a sergeant with a chainsword and bolt pistol, was labeled "For ages 12 and up due to small parts and a choking risk."!

*twitch* *twitch* Okaaaaay... Lamia was the Queen of Libya who was punished by Hera for being Zeus' mistress. In some versions, especially Keats' poem on the subject, she has her children murdered by said goddess and is turned into a snake-bodied monster who eats babies (yes, really). She has normal hair.
Medusa, on the other hand, is a Gorgon, one of the three daughters of the ancient sea gods. As with a lot of Greek mythology, the origin story changes a lot depending on who is telling it, but what is generally accepted is that she had snakes for hair and her gaze could turn people to stone. In some versions she has a snake-body, in some she's winged, in others she has a normal human body apart from the hair. We'll assume the accepted modern version has a snake-body too as that's how she's been portrayed in Clash of the Titans (both times). So the model shown is definitely a Medusa, due to the snake-hair.
I don't know a lot about the Dark Elves' specific mythology, but I do know that Medusa in general is not a "type" of Lamia. They are completely different unique mythological figures. You may as well say that the Sphinx is a kind of Lammasu because they both have human heads on animal bodies. They have been co-opted as races in certain settings, but I've never heard them mentioned in Warhammer before now. I know D&D has them as monsters, but those lamias have a lion's body, not a snake's. I'm not entirely sure where you got this idea from, though I do really hope it's not the Monster Girls Encyclopaedia.

Pathfinder, High ranking lamias have snake bodies and are shape shifters. A lot of video games and anime also have snake bodied women as lamias. GW however is ripping of Clash of the Titans, because actual creative work is anathema to them.

In all its resin glory... imagine the miscasts on those pairs, that would give you nightmares *shudders*... All in all I hope they do get more mature for the CSM sake, Chaos due to the background is really dark and gritty, and the models should reflect that imo. Also I am surprised that this thread has not turned into an episode of South Park, or the sequel to Team America as I was expecting it to be as soon a I read the word boobies, good work Dakka keep it up

Sorry Cassandra, nobody is going to believe you.... (Sorry... I really couldn't help it... also a reader of mythology, and well... Cassandra.... )
Most of the Greek Monsters were unique - from the Hydra to the Minotaur. (And they deserved the capital M in Monsters....)
There were three Gorgons, but only one was mortal.
Pathfinder has both lion bodied and snake bodied Lamia - with the snakey ones being the nobility.
The Auld Grump, centaurs on the other hand show up a fair amount....

I actually prefer the River Troll Hag to the gorgon. *Shrug*
For that matter... I have not seen much negative chatter about the Hag at all. Or chatter either way, to be honest.
Thanks for mentioning her, by the way - until you did I was unaware of the model. It would be a nice model for an RPG.
