Hello Dakka legionaries! I am currently in the process of making a 2000 point chaos imperial guard horde list, (with the vanilla guard codex) and i was wondering if anybody had any decent tactics and advice for such armies, basically the general idea is anything a horde list would expect, but with a slight twist, allies, As the list will be themed after nurgle, i was thinking of having something like nurgle daemons as drop troops for general support, or maybe some heavy chaos marine units. Hell, maybe even necron rules as Dark mechanicus. Or i could just say Zog it all and take an armored battlegroup

SO, how would i go about making this list? What units (and allies, if any) would you advise? What things should i look out for? What little tricks have worked for you?

Basically, I'm going for the following, 4 vendettas, an astropath and hopefully plenty of vehicles as well as infantry, Perhaps a bastion with a comms relay to help the CCS and astropath as well.

Do you think this sort of list could work? Thanks for any assistance if so!

With the points you're looking at with 4 dettas and some other vehicles (I'm assuming for now 2 russ variants) you're going to have about 1100 points left for infantry, With that in mind, here's a 1100 points good all-infantry list that you can 'bolt on' to the armoured and air contingent:

CCS, LC, Astropath, Standard: 115

Marbo: 65

PCS, 4x flamer: 50

Commissar with power axe: 45
PIS, melta, power axe: 70
PIS, melta, power axe: 70
PIS, melta, power axe: 70

PCS, 4x flamer: 50

PIS, LC: 70
PIS, LC: 70
PIS, LC: 70

PCS, 4x flamer: 50

PIS, LC: 70
PIS, LC: 70
PIS, LC: 70

Veteran squad, 3 melta: 100 (go in a vendetta)

1105

That is a good core to start from for infantry, some would say the power weapon blob would be better swapped for LC, bu that's a matter of preference, I think an assault-orientated blob is also more fluffy for chaos guard. I can't help on the demon front, but if you want some CSM then MON marines or Plague marines also fit the theme and give some nice and resilient troops.

I really do like this foot list, i must say that i will most likely start building off it probably with the aforementioned units!

And about the marines, that really ties in because i've already got a plague marine army Perhaps i could plop them in rhinos. Although i'm still undecided on allies :/

The thing with allies is that you need to consider whether or not you can fulfil the role within your own army. For example, it comes down to the choice between a squad of plague marines or equal points of PIS to hold an objective. The former has better force concentration and is more durable, but has less wounds and a smaller footprint, as well as not being able to use orders. Conversely, the IG works better with the army as a whole so possible has better inter-unit synergy.

I'd say, in this case, that with the 2 LC platoons you have enough immobile scoring, so a couple of PM squads in Rhinos are a good option for mobile, durable elite troops. It also opens up the other parts of the CSM army, so you could take a Drake, a defiler or similar if that is something you want to add.

Going off your Necron idea, you obviously don't mind what rules you use as long as it looks 'thematic'. Taking that and from another army I saw which does something similar (one of Jy2's tourney reports), I'd say you should have space wolf allies, modelled as Nurgle Marines. They mesh very well with foot guard because even a simple rune priest grants the whole squad immunity to being swept, and re-rolls from divination. Not to mention you can take 2 HQ's for the price of one (What Jy2's opponent did was a mini wolf star made of 3 wolf guard, a named wolf guard, and Logan, looked epic and chaos-y because they had man reapers) so you could either take 2 priests or you could take a wolf (Chaos) lord.

They have great drop pod troops and long fangs are great missile spam. Imperial wolves all the way!

I like the sound of space wolves, probably could just use my current Plague marine models as proxies

If not Space Wolves then Dark Angels would be great to. Azrael gives the unit he is with Fearless and a 4+ invulnerable save, so a massive squad of x50 guys with a 4+ ward and never running away would be a pretty nasty thing for opponents to face.

19th Krieg Siege Army 7500pts.
40k/HH Night Lords 5000pts.
Orks Waaaghmacht Spearhead 2500pts.
