I had an idea for an alternative for Overwatch. It would be called Brace for the Charge or Hold the Line. It would be used by either models that aren't able to perform Overwatch (no guns) or models that don't WANT to use Overwatch.

Player A declares a charge, rolls and is in range to do so.
Player B declares that he/she will "Brace/Hold" instead of Overwatch.
Player A moves in models into base contact.
Player B rolls dice for each model in his squad. (NOT just those in base contact)
--This is where I'm not sure what would be better--
Option A: Each six rolled allows a model in the unit to strike at int 10
Option B: Each six rolled allows a model to add +1 to their int stat

I think option A would make more sense, but I'd love to hear people's thoughts and ideas.

Don't have my rules on me, but thats +1 A for the defenders right?

I think that would defeat the purpose of charging. Charges are amongst the few remaining strategic elements of the game... don't make them useless!

I agree that it defeats the purpose of the bonus attack for charging in the first place, but that aside, I like option B better, that feels like it fits better with the idea of preparing against an attack more.

I was thinking that when an enemy moves within "3" of a units, that unit can take an iniative test [orks can re-roll this test] and if passed can charge the enemy unit.

I'm not sure if discouraging charges would make the game more attractive, but this could be a good idea for a special rule instead of a universal thing.

Defensive
Any unit with this rule or that is joined by an independent character with this rule can make an initiative test when charged. If the test is successful, all models in the unit fight at In 10 for the following close combat round.

This. Seriously, there is no situation in the universe where a cultist/guardsman is going to get the drop on a Khorne Berserker (I 4) let alone an Avatar of Khaine just because he sees the charge comming and is preparing for it. Models have an initiative score for a reason, it reflects thier combat ability in terms of speed and agility.

We use a different mechanic for Over Watch, more akin to 2nd Ed. where a unit has to forgo its shooting the prior turn to be able to shoot during the enemy movement phase but units shoot at full BS and and target any unit, not just those charging in.

Instead of shooting however, any unit that moves within 6" may be 'counter' charged instead with both sides receiving an assault bonus attack. You can set up pickets to prevent enemy movement just passing through your lines indiscriminately this way, and keeps both players involved during any turn.
