Interesting report and interesting impressions on the codex. I am not sure I agree that the codex did not get an overhaul - it seems to me there is a lot of interest in there. You can actually make the decision on taking Sgts for squads, what weapons you want, there are some interesting artifacts and a lot of units seems to be more competitive.

I know that they might not be 'awesome' units, but at the price point things like Honor Guard are more interesting. Grav Weapons on bikes seem different, and the different chapters seem flavorful.

Thanks for sharing though, I have not seen many SM reports up and it is good to hear something about how the army plays. I think you are spot on about missing that assault element to really take it to the enemy and put pressure on them.

Good report. Physic Shriek doesn't require a "To Hit" roll though. Its a straight LD test on 3d6 for the afflicted unit and they suffer wounds equal to the amount they fail by.

I believe that psychic shriek is a witchfire so it does require to hit. It's not a nova.

It is a witchfire power with special rules. There is no weapon profile for psychic shriek. Instead it tells you to target a unit and that unit rolls a 3d6 leadership test suffering wounds for the difference. It is essentially a shooting attack that automatically hits.

This is more a YMDC topic - but where does it say it automatically hits? All witchfires roll to hit - unless otherwise specified naturally. Being a template means they hit automatically others might say 'suffers x hits' but I am not sure where this appears in Psychic Shriek.

I'm thinking if psychic shriek would've been used properly it might have made a difference.

A Heretic may see the truth and seek redemption. He may be forgiven his past and will be absolved in death. A Traitor can never be forgiven. A Traitor will never find peace in this world or the next. There is nothing as wretched or as hated in all the world as a Traitor. - Cardinal Khrysdam, Instructum Absolutio

Care to elaborate?

BTW nice battle reports. It looks like your assault termies in a raider with a HQ might need to be replaced with a CM on a bike and some friends. Or maybe swap the LR for a storm raven?

Anyways gl and hope to see more bat reps

I'm working on getting my bike captain/master & a bike unit ready for action, so hopefully that may shake things up a little bit. I'm also going to try out a small black templars allied detachment (a chaplain, a land raider, and a unit of crusaders) to serve as a decent scoring/assault unit, plus their I4 and a ton of attacks should do well against the many xeno/geq armies that seem to be popping up in my local metagame. :]

I sadly don't have a stormraven.

As for the psychic scream to hit thing, my local hobby group seems to agree that it does need to roll to hit, seeing as it's a witchfire spells and witchfire spells are described as being used in the same way as regular shooting weapons.
