Subject: Warp Jump Generators

Eldar warp spiders have Warp jump generators, and this makes them Jet pack infantry. The jet pack unit section of the rule book states that jet pack units can use their jet pack in the movement phase OR make a thrust move in the assault phase. If they make a thrust move they move as normal in the movement phase. The warp jump generators state that IN THE MOVEMENT PHASE they can choose to move as jet pack infantry or make a warp jump.
My question is possibly quite simple, if they choose to make a warp jump and not move as jet pack infantry in the movement phase, can they then make a thrust move in the assault phase?

"'players must agree how they are going to select their armies, and if any restrictions apply to the number and type of models they can use."
This is an actual rule in the actual rulebook. Quit whining about how you can imagine someone's army touching you in a bad place and play by the actual rules.

Yes. They are not moving with the jet pack in the movement phase(they are making a warp jump), so they can then make a Jet pack move in the assault phase. Also Jet packs can always make their Thrust move in the assault phase(assuming they are not locked in combat) I do not know where you are getting the idea that they can only do one or the other.

It's because it says 'instead of a jet pack move' I wondered if that meant the warp jump counts as a more extreme jet pack move?

The Warp Spiders have 3 movement options in the movement phase:
1) move as normal infantry.
2) move with the jet pack.
3) make the warp jump.

Don't have my codex on me atm, but I'm almost positive that jet has no special movement in the movement phase. If I'm right then they move like infantry in the movement and have an assault move they can do.
The warp generator gives them special movement phase options.
Edit:confused jump and jet

Jet doesn't grant extra distance in the movement phase, but it still allows you to use the Skyborne rule and move over stuff.

Correct, but that's applied to their movement (which is of normal models of their type(6" for the spiders)), and doesn't deny the assault move.

You really should check your rulebook.
Jet models can choose whether or not to use their jetpacks in the movement phase; which is whether they want to use the skyborne rule or not.
It is like, the only rule for movement under jet pack.

The way it reads to me is they don't have a choice to use it, can they say that they're not?

I am going to post the exact words now, where it very specifically tells you there is a choice, and I want you to tell me how it doesn't give a choice:
"Jet Pack units can move as normal models of their type or activate their jet packs."
That is a specific choice, you can move as normal for your type, or you can move with the jet pack(granting you Skyborne).

I agree with the last poster, however, I want to know if I am able to make a warp jump in the movement phase and still choose to use the jet packs in the assault phase? If that makes sense?

There is nothing in the Jet Pack entry that limits the use of the Jet Pack to a single phase like there is in the Jump entry. So, you can use it in each phase as you see fit.

Kinda what Goobi said; Jet packs can always make the assault phase move(as long as they are not engaged in CC); so whether you walk, jet jump, or warp jump in the movement phase, you can Thrust in the assault phase.

I thought you could only jet pack jump in the assault phase if you didn't use them in the movement phase?

That's Jump that limits to one or the other. Jet never adds that restriction. As long as they are staying out of assault, they can move how they see fit.

You're right. I never read that part. For some dumb reason I stopped before that second part EVERY time.
I've lost so many spiders and tau suits. If there's nothing blocking a unit then they wouldn't need to activate their packs in difficult terrain, and then wouldn't die as I roll a 1. Thank you for pointing it out.

It is something to keep in mind, that you have a choice to use this piece of war-gear. I have had the misfortune of losing 4 out of 9 sniper drones in the very first phase of the very first turn. My opponent was smart and ensured he placed everything on the other side of the board, and I wanted them in shooting range quickly so I 'jumped' from the terrain I was in, just to ignore the difficult tests. That proved to be such a huge mistake that I would state it had a turning effect on the entire battle, all in the very first opening move.
There is nothing more face-palm worthy then having half a unit of heavy hitters simply trip and fall to death....

If a jet ack unit has hit and run can they use their jump packs the same turn they disengage from the enemy? Actually come to think of it im not entirely sure when you use hit and run. Is it after the assault phase or at the start of their movement?

Hit & Run is done at the end of the assault phase. Since it is the end of the phase, you would not be able to do the Thrust move.

Greebo had spent an irritating two minutes in that box. Technically, a cat locked in a box may be alive or it may be dead. You never know until you look. In fact, the mere act of opening the box will determine the state of the cat, although in this case there were three determinate states the cat could be in: these being Alive, Dead, and Bloody Furious.

Didn't save the sniper drones in the slightest, all four failed the 50/50 armour save they had.... I go by Jinx for a reason.

You still get an armour save against wounds from Dangerous Terrain now. And also keep in mind that if you aren't using the jetpack in the movement phase, you have to roll a difficult terrain test if you're moving through terrain, which can limit how far you move.
