Subject: Converting Meltaguns on Steel Legion Models

Hey guys. After finally finding a good deal on Steel Legion for a good sized force, I am working on upgrading my Vet Squads with Meltaguns and I was wondering what is the best way to convert them? Currently, Im taking the Steel Legion Sgt. and instead of gluing the las-pistol and chainsword arms on, I was considering getting 2x Cadian arms and then adding the meltagun, which would be easier then cutting off or doing something slap-on. Is this a good way to do it or are there other methods I could try?
Thanks

I'd take a regular lasgunner and convert him.
Personally, I'd make my own melta head out of a bit of aluminum tubing and some greenstuff, which would allow you to simply slip the new head over the muzzle of the lasgun. Alternately, you could clip off the end of the lasgun and attach (probably with pinning) a new melta head.
Once that's done, you've just got to add a touch of detail work for the melta tank/hose. This could also be greenstuffed without too much bother, or you could cut this part off of the same meltagun you cut the head off of if you went with that method. You could then attach the melta sight at the front the same way (or with GS).
Then just get rid of the laspack at the bottom of the lasgun and you should be good. Of course, the end result will look skinnier than a "real" meltagun, but it will involve MUCH, MUCH less work than trying to hack both arms off of a metal model.

From what I understand, the arms on theSteel Legion Sgt. are not attached you have to glue them on. I could be wrong as it has been awhile since I have last seen the models but if thats the case wouldnt that be easier?

Came here to say this. I did it with a number of my Tallarn to make extra meltaguns and it works great and looks pretty good.

On my meltagunners, I took the steel legion lasgun, cut off the end, scraped off the eagle and other such lasgun details like the magazine, and added a melta ammo pack to the side, and a melta barrel to the end. If you dont have a melta barrel or ammo pack, its easy enough to make an ammo pack or maybe try using a meltabomb, and use flamer barrels from the space marine kit (everyone has access to these i swear) or file some IG ones till theyre smooth and rounded.
In regards to the sergeant, he has the chainsword arm attached and the pistol arm loose. However remember if you cut off his arm, you will lose or have to sculpt the steel legion insignia onto his shoulder
