I don't get it, parts of it make it seem like its meant to be Jack Ryan Jr., and I kind of hope it is. Because if this is meant to be Jack Ryan Sr. ...

I think it is more a Batman Begins situation in which they are starting the franchise over. It makes sense, the books (while still worth reading) would be period pieces or have to undergo radical changes to the story. A fresh start is probably not a bad idea, but hopefully it won't be so generic that it could be any espionage film.

I dunno, if they try to make it a reboot I think I'll just add 'Junior' under my breath every time they say Jack Ryan. It'll make it easier to bear if they stuff it up I'd have no problem with them making red rabbit or something, and doing it well, as opposed to re imagining it. But then I'm sure if I had been a batman fan I would have been saying the same things prior to Batman Begins, and it was a pretty damn enjoyable movie (at least I thought so), so I should just stay positive, and if it starts going south start muttering 'Junior'

That is the one with Pam isn't it? And the drug ring? I really enjoyed that one. If done right, it'd probably rate pretty high in terms of classification...

That's the one. What can I say. I'm a sucker for revenge rampages, though I have a feeling we'll only get one of books stories if Paramount ever gets around to it. No idea how they could fit both the major plot lines of that book into one movie.

I actually went and found it after I posted that, I'm going to reread it. And Red Rabbit. And probably one of the others. I'm not sure which, but it'll probably end up being Executive Order.

Yeah but it also has a plot about him trying to rescue some POW's in Vietnam or something (the birth of the John Clark persona) for pretty much half the book. I'd favor the revenge story cause revenge is entertaining and I've already seen First Blood Part II

Wasn't Jack Jr.'s code name " Quarterback" and he was keeping his CIA affiliations secret? Started as an analyst then Boom I killed somebody!
Yeah, and they had the people killing off operatives which sort of seems like what is happening in there, and I vaguely remember him starting a relationship and having to hide what he was doing?

I'm a big Clancy fan and i'm trying to be optimistic about this movie but Jack Ryan is looking awfully John Clark or Ding Chavez in this trailer. Here's hoping their creative liberties with the Clancy universe turns out for the best.

Ah, that is right. And Ding Chavez isn't a name I have heard in some time.
