PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS IS JUST AN OPINION ANSWER, I JUST WANT TO KNOW WHAT YOU THINK, NOT STRICTLY WHAT THE 40K FLUFF SAYS, JUST YOUR OPINION

So just curious, what do you guys think about the 2 missing primarchs? What do you think happened to them and are they still around? If they were to be found, would they get their own chapters?

It's briefly eluded to that Leman Russ killed them on the Emperor's orders, most likely due to genetic flaws.

Sanguinius also talks about it and why he won't tell the Emperor about the red thirst because he doesn't want to become the third scratched out chapter.

There was a thread over in the background section that claimed some GW writer blabbed about the lost primarch and the end of 40k.

According to the writer: one primarch was sent to another galaxy to colonize and the other was killed when the emperor found him because he has enslaved the planet and did not display the characteristics of the other primarchs.

I take this with a tonne of salt, but it is actually an explanation that makes some sense.

Curze is not the missing primarch and wasn't killed by the emprah... at least not directly.

Instead of "some writer".. as I said Russ does mention this in the horus heresy books when hes asked how he feels about going to kill Magnus and Sanguinius does also in fear to thread so it's not all that much salt. It's just not talked about very much.

The legions were killed off due to some kind of defect, just GW hasn't said what that was.

I've read that at least parts of the expunged legions were absorbed into the Ultramarines which is how they explain the ultras being able to support so many 2nd founding chapters after the Heresy.

There are allusions and hints, but yeah...

Russ and the SW killed off at least a Legion, and most likely a primarch too. We don't know why, but the 1k sons are not his first.

The other one was found too (as we have covered statues for both) but we have hints (they may just be legion rumor) that those still found worthy became Ultramarines.

I am extremely skeptical of the "send to colonize another galaxy" thing. Without a solid source, I'd never entertain that as its completely out of 40k fluff character to head that direction with it. The only author I could see saying something like that would be Goto.

I would like to point out a like thing. While reading "Vulcan Lives!" I think I found something. It is on chapter four. This is Vulcan speaking:
Spoiler:
I pulled back my spear, aiming for his back, where I knew the iron would punch through into his heart. Even primarchs can die. Ferrus had died. He was the first of us, the first I was certain of, anyway. Even primarchs can die…

Soooo the lost primarchs are not dead?

They are definiatley dead. Russ says so in Burning of Prospero, Lorgar says also in The First Heretic, Sanguinius hides the Flaw because Big E killed off that 2 primarchsfor something.

What Vulkan means is that Ferrus is the first to die to the Traitors.

God-Emperor? Calling him a god was how all this mess started.

Whilst I personally believe they're dead as well, I don't think any of the sources you quoted actually say the Primarchs are dead.

Before all the Horus Heresy books, I thought the two records that were deleted were because it allowed people to make up fluff for their own personal chapter with no basis in any of the other first foundings. However now they get hinted at being failures that were never allowed to be with the rest..

I thought the same. Are you sure it says "dead"? Could you provide a quote?
And in "Vulcan Lives!" it says "die", not "die to the traitors".

Found the quote from Fear to Thread. Page 43.
Spoiler:
‘But why have you kept this from father? If any living being could know the key to it, it would be him!’
Sanguinius rounded on Horus, his seraphic features hardening. ‘You know the reason!’ he answered with a snarl. ‘I will not be responsible for the erasure of the Blood Angels from Imperial history. I will not have a third empty plinth beneath the roof of the Hegemon as my Legion’s only memorial!’
Horus’s eyes widened. ‘It would not come to that.’

It says nothing about the lost primarchs being dead.

All 20 Primarches fought in the Great Crusade. It's mentioned in the 4th ed. CSM codex, probably other sources too.

What I find most interesting is that whatever the lost Primarchs did or became, it was so strange/heinous/terrible that even the Traitor Primarchs doesn't talk about it.

Think about it.
The Traitor Primarchs, which holds no loyalty to the Emperor and would be able to use this as a very effective propaganda tool, STILL doesn't talk about the missing Primarchs.

Makes you wonder....

All fluff aside I think GW is leaving them unaddressed to allow the players to create their own Primarchs and chapters based on those primarchs. It sounds like a ton of work though and I might try it much further down the road when my modeling skills have improved dramatically.

Think of this conspiracy theory. The Emprah split his own genome into 20 different strains, so each primarch reflects a piece of him.

Now which Primarch reflects his absolute hatred of religion? 1 of those 20 gene seeds has to reflect this. Yet, currently, none of the known primarchs follow the imperial truth.

Makes sense that the above primarch and his chapter are redacted and/or killed just so the imperium can stay in power without anyone asking questions.

Cue x-files theme music....

Weren't they called the forgotten and the lost? Does that refer to both of them or is one forgotten and one lost? I like to think that one of them turned traitor and the other one was sent to wipe them out, but were themselves also corrupt in the process, so Leman Russ had to come in and finish the job. I also like the colonized another galaxy thing tough
