My Local Gamesworkshop has a general dislike of proxies, and is against the use of them as a full time option when their are models available. I really want to use the Dark Eldar Beast pack, its such a good fun unit, but I can't make my self pay £10 for 2 Khymerae models that I don't even like when my pocket money is £30 and that has to include food and transport. So do you, fellow Dakkites, that it would be unreasonable for me to buy a unit of Vampire count Dire Wolves and use spear Tyranid bits to 'claw them up' the rule of cool would justify the proxy? Or use a Varghiest as a Clawed fiend? I was also thinking of putting 2/3 converted Gargoyles onto a single base and using them as Razorwings. Would I also be allowed to use normal Hellions as beast masters?

Would you accept these as proxies for the beast pack if they where properly converted and painted? More importantly, put a grumpy face on first, then look at them again and see if you would accept them. Because GW really like to make people fork out for models (Not mine really, its a nice place, its just no one uses 'Good' conversions for proxies, so the manager doesn't like those people) but I would be able to afford a useable unit for ages, if ever. And before you say, as im sure you will, I don't have any other options other then GW, there are no other game store near me that I know.

*If you know of any gamestores within/near Chester, England, then please PM me.*

I'm all for it.

The GW store, you will have to ask them, as mine and anyone else who posts, have no power there.

Peter: As we all know, Christmas is that mystical time of year when the ghost of Jesus rises from the grave to feast on the flesh of the living! So we all sing Christmas Carols to lull him back to sleep.
Bob: Outrageous, How dare he say such blasphemy. I've got to do something.
Man #1: Bob, there's nothing you can do.
Bob: Well, I guess I'll just have to develop a sense of humor.

My GW says no proxies unless they are other GW models. So in Texas, that idea totally works.

Also the VC models look way cooler than the DE.

I actually like the khymerae.

Can't bring myself to pay that much though, and i haven't converted any up yet.

Hate the razorwings though, so mine are conversions.

I did buy the fiends though, as i love that model.

The beastmaster model is futt-bugly. I converted my beastmasters from vehicle hangers-on and bitz.

Check out these excellent conversions by fellow dakka user Mechanicum Jon. They are recognizably the same general shape as khymerae, and look bloody awesome as well. Plus, you can easily make a small horde of them on the cheap (well compared to the other option).

Daemons--5000
Death Guard --2000
Daemons--15000
Word Bearers--10000

Total investment in the Forces of Chaos: 38,000

Use Tyranid 'gants. Its fluffy as well if you read the codex.

Oh I LOVE them! Are those simply Dire Wolves with Hormagaunt bits? At least I know it will work, and if I work hard, will look almost as awesome as those!

A friend of mine just uses Dire Wolves to represent Khymerae, and Some Beasts of war (I think) bird miniatures for razorwing flock.

I don't just accept Beast Pack proxies, I use them. I had a bag full of old Dreamblade models, which wound up getting severed from their bases and being repurposed as beasts and grotesques. Dreamblade singles are still available for pretty cheap, too.

If you are planning on playing at a GW store, you obviously need to use GW models for your stand ins.

That said I have never seen anyone who didn't use some sort of stand in for every part of the beastpack.

MJ above has the best looking beastpack on dakka. You see his Khy and he uses FW flying rippers for his razor wings.

Here's a link to a site that sells old Dreamblade figs. Since a Khymerae is supposed to be a 'nightmare made flesh,' I think Dreamblade is pretty much the perfect substitute. Some of their more animalistic figs are awesome beasts!
