I was curious if anyone knew as a proportion of the first three books Dany chapters or compared to other characters she meets? I am pretty sure he is in most of her chapters and prominent in a fair number especially in book 2 and 3.

Its always struck me as slightly odd. Jorah isn't the only Westerosi exile in Essos. There are lots of Westerosi in the various mercenary companies. So Dany needn't have had just one advisor/mentor character for most of the first 3 books. Compare her to Jon for instance: he has a ton of influential figures who have an effect on him. His friends, the blacksmith, Tyrion, Jeor Mormont, even Mance Rayder and Tormund. Theres then the fact that she could interact with all of the Essosi characters a lot more. She doesn't exactly confide in her handmaidens or even husband all that much. They do love eachother but they don't talk much beyond that. I suppose Martin does need to setup Jorahs betrayal and how Dany feels utterly shaken to the core; hence she relies on/interacts with Jorah constantly. Although, even then, it does seem like overkill to stress it that much. I mean, we got the emotional shock of Drogos death and relatively he doesn't have that many scenes.

The difference between Dany, and Jon, aside from obvious plumbing issues... is that She has had Jorah for basically as long as she can remember, protecting her brother (and by extension, and eventually her) as her brother was of the psychotic side of the Targaryen, and wouldnt let hardly anyone get even remotely close to her, its kinda easy to see how she would get so close to Jorah.

Well no. The thing is, on a re-read, she does do things like visit the market with her handmaids (as well as Jorah who she wants to hang around with her as well) and its implied they are close friends. Its just the author doesn't have them talk more often beyond popular dothraki sayings "it is known". So Dany isn't that isolated. Though Jorah is set up as the main character she interacts with for the first 3 books. It would have been perfectly possible to have Dany discuss things with the Essosi characters around her to give her insight into herself; or present more than one Westerosi character. Its not until the third book that Arstan shows up; even then he still takes second place as his main role in the third book is to reveal Jorahs betrayal to Dany.

From what I remember

1st book- In first chapter where he is noted by Dany. Constant companion ever since and regularly interact.

2nd book- Dany only has 5 (might be 6) chapters. Despite this one of the most prominent things in her first chapter is Jorah telling his backstory and Dany realizing his whole motivation for serving her (he wants her). Her second chapter in Qarth is odd since he pops up at the very end and they have a close scene where Dany dwells on their friendship and how he should view her.

3rd- Him being exiled is one of the main plot points of Danys arc. It has a huge impact on her and certainly contributes to her sense of everything falling apart. It hits her at a personal level just as Astapor falls apart simultaneously. I think most of Danys chapters are with him having a very prominent part. The first one, he kisses her after suggesting going to get Unsullied. In the second they have an argument over the Unsullied and we have the Rhaegar died bit. During the negotiations proper and viewing the Unsullied Barristan plays a larger part. We then have another argument over Daario. Finally we have the reveal of his treachery and again with his exile. Only Barristan has lengthy interaction with Dany and even then what he does is largely feeding into the Jorah/Dany thing. Barristan tries to displace Jorahs role, holds the opposite views to him and is the cause of his exile.
