Hey all, two quick questions. First, will there be any events for templecon in Feb? And the second question, is the second ed rule book going to be available in print or is it just a pdf format?. Thanks!

Hi Nichols, Welcome to DakkaDakka!

I believe we will be having a few events at Templecon, but I'm not 100% sure of what exactly other then our regular demos and a Brushfire Megabattle at some point in the evening. As the show gets closer we'll have a more definite idea of what is being run when.

Brushfire's Second Edition rules are available as a Digest Book in both Print and PDF right now. Both are on our WargameVault shop, just select the printed edition when checking out. This is also how you can easily get 2nd Edition Stat Cards.

The full books for Historia Rodentia and Journey to the East will be available in a few months, we're just waiting on the fluff and art to be finished.

I'll only agree to a Megabattle if that damn rabbit doesn't make an appearence.

He is less scary in 2.0, but I can easily bring the penguin instead.

Nope, I quite. Anyone want to buy a large amount of Aquitar?

Haha, best of luck with that.

Next Megabattle I really want to see what effect running none unique exemplars in some of my squads have. Theroetically I could add a Medic and a Grenadier to each of my squads right?

As far as I know, only either a Grenadier or a Medic, as only one Adjutant may activate at a time. Altough you can keep them close and activate one or the other based on which effect you want.

No more than one Adjutant may activate in a squad.

...But for you Caty, you can have all the Adjutants.

Ok... I expect to see a personal exception in the next rules update.

Does a Medic actually activate though? I always viewed its ability as more of a passive thing.

A model only counts being in a squad with another model if they where activated during the same activation before (or they where deployed as a squad) and neither of them activated since. (I wonder if I can twist this sentence more )

A medic is only going to move when he activates, but the ability is worded as "units in the medic's squad". Otherwise it would use an aura like "models within X" of the medic".

For bonus points you can put the medic front and center when you suspect you are going to get charged or your troops are in a tight space, like between two terrain pieces. If you can clog the charge path with it the enemy charge will end short with a lot of models b2b with the medic and non of them able attack it. He is really a life saver, isn't he?

Ok...

What if though... I have a squad containing 6 Fussilers, a Grendaier and a Medic. On my turn I activate the squad and move everyone forward, I then shoot with the Fussilers and the Grenadier. On my opponets turn he fires at the squad killing 3 Fussilers, do I still get the medics ability? Or was the squad illegially activated?

Adjutant
These units are similar to Exemplars except that, Adjutants are not restricted to attaching to a specific type of model, and more than one of the same Adjutant may be enlisted. No more than one Adjutant may activate in a squad.

Since the Grenadier and the Medic are both Adjutants, you cannot activate both of them in a single squad.

No, because the medic is no longer part of the squad of the Fussilers at that point.

Actually, 6 fussilers, a grenadier and a medic cannot be in one squad. I don't think deployment rules forbid this, but squad selection rules say that only one Adjutant may activate with a squad. So if you had a squad of 6 fussilers and a medic plus a grenadier being around, when you activate your fussilers with the grenadier, they are no longer in squad with the medic. The medic activated last time with the fussilers but the fussilers last activation have not activated the medic, so they are not in one squad.

So basically what I'm getting out of this is that I don't need a minumum of 6 of every exemplar... Way to rules write your way out of sales.

Adjutants are interesting like that. In other games they are like attachments to units, but this game has dynamically formed units so it becomes complicated.

You can still have a Hero AND an Adjutant activated with a squad as long as the hero is compatible with that squad. Or just a Hero and an Adjutant, or five Heroes and an Adjutant.

And you can add exemplars to the mix

That reminds me, I have two Jaques of Marinque minies and there are no mercs for v2 yet. Any news about that?

Its on my to-do list, along with a bunch of other things. I'll get to it ASAP.

Jacques hasn't changed in V2, so you should be good to go with his current costs/rules.

I'm registered for the Beginner's Tournament on Saturday. Will we be able to use our own models?

Also, are you planning something for Endless?

Yes, but sadly there isn't a beginner's tournament on Saturday (anymore). TempleCon was filled for Saturday during normal convention hours, so we got bumped back to the 8 to midnight slot, and since we figured most people weren't going to be willing to play in a friendly tournament that late at night, we're going to have a Megabattle. Catyr and I haven't set a points size, but I figured anything less than, "everything you own" might be not enough points .

No to Endless, though I can try to set something up for Endless if there is enough interest, but I make no promises on this since it was a royal pain in the butt just to get the two times that we did.

I'm a little sad now. The late night timing was perfect for some laid back intro tournament in my mind. I had already coerced a friend in taking part too.

I'll think about the mega-battle then. My "big" 50 resources force doesn't seem worthy.

Catyr and I had been going back and forth on this, we really wanted the beginner's tournament during the day (my thought was because more people would be around, his thought was because more people would be sober). But we literally could not get any other time from TempleCon. Also, the late night timing is event registration up on the site? *checks TempleCon's site* So apparently they put up event registration for the Megabattle using the information I gave them, but didn't change the title .

I agree that a Beginner's Tournament would be better to have than a megabattle. I'll see what we can do. People should still sign up anyways, because a megabattle could just as easily become a "tournament" if I get people to sign up for it. Ugh, this keeps getting more and more complicated.

To expand on this alittle because it seems like were going to have a few first timer Templeconers...

Templecon is unlike any convention I've ever been to and I've gone to alot of convention. At one point it was mainly a Steampunk convention, but then minatures and games in general started taking it over. Now its a 5000 person convention thats roughly half steampunk and half gaming. Alot of well known companies host pretty big events there, PP in particular uses the convention to announce all of its new things. The convention from 8:00 am to 6:00 pm is some pretty awsome gaming. After 6:00 though it turns into a pretty big party with not so much gaming... They have concerts, fashion shows, live shows, movies, tastings, dance classes, fighting class, panels....... The list goes on and on....... To get anything done after 6:00 pm your fighting alot of other stuff. Matt, Emily and Steve should be able to tell you just how sober the convention was after 6:00...

The beginners tournament is on Friday in the morning ish. Depending on just how much room is avalible I might try and run some other megabattles on other nights to, but they wouldn't be anything official.

As far as the tournament itself goes, I'm hoping to run it pretty much along the sames lines as the Warstore Weekend Tournament. 50 Resources, 60 minute rounds, 3 rounds. You can use your own models however I think I'm going to propose limiting expemplars and siege weapons.

This is going to be my 5th time there, so I easily understand your thinking. At the same time, that is exactly why I was happy to see a smaller tournament in the evening, instead of competing with all the other gaming stuff in the after noon.

Right now, the Friday event in the schedule is a 150 resources tournament. That will be shuffled for the Beginner's one? I'll have to miss it then, as I'm already in the WM/H Team one in the same time bracket.

I'll follow your announcement, and chime in once your schedule is set.

It seems there was a mix-up in communication... I guess I wasn't 100% clear when talking with Alf about what exactly I wanted to run. For the next convention I'm going to see about renting a billboard right outside his bedroom window...

We were a few days late in getting our events scheduled, because of that we were left with some odd timeslots... Basically giving us 5 hours on Friday and 3 hours Saturday (Although we might be able to push this, I doubt there is going to be much gaming going on after Midnight).

The new plan is to run a 50 resource beginners tournament on Friday. Once we find out if we loose the tables at midnight on Saturday we will either run another tournament or a themed mega battle.

I'm still going back and forth with TempleCon, I've heard back from their event coordinator, but she didn't quite answer my question.
