Ive been looking about and found that commission work is expensive to have done, so i wanted to bring a cheap yet quick and tabletop standard commission painting service to the miniature world.
i have no samples painted up yet so obviously i wont take on any work as i want you to be fully aware the standard your getting and that you're happy with my work etc

I will be painting mostly armies to a tabletop standard, all extra detailed models that you wanted painted to a higher standard will be extra but not by much (£5 to £15 depending on size),

UK BASED

i do not go by an hourly rate as i do not like the concept,
i do not charge per figure i go by how many figures you want painted
if you want a normal tabletop standard then i do not change the price if you have more tanks and bigger mechs etc as for me a space marine takes as long as anything else again depending on the quality of work you would like done

time frames will differ dependent of your armies/units size, this cant be controlled, more things too paint obviously take more time but if i go over the time frame i quote you i do not charge extra, so this means SET PRICES YAY!
I will paint any color scheme you want! if you want pink spotted space marines with big teddy bear faces on their banners then so be it ( i might cringe a little but i wont complain)

How about some pictures? if you want anyone to actually buy from you, you should probably have a portfolio. And work on your punctuation grammar etc, this doesn't look very professional so far.

Everything he has said is worthwhile advice. Why ask people if they wanted something painted and then say you aren't painting anything yet? Spelling, grammar, and punctuation are all important things to take in to consideration if you want to look professional.

This is all called constructive criticism; no one is "bashing" you. I think it's awesome you want to do commission painting, but I would recommend getting your ducks in a row (fully fleshed out business plan, portfolio of work, a website, etc.) before you start trying to sell yourself.

And some, I assume, are good people."

I don't think he's bashing you as such, it's just that grammar and punctuation is a basic concept of communication and is vital to appearing approachable and professional. You are more likely to receive more feedback and/or customers if your 'pitch' is easily read and legible than if it is poorly constructed and reads awkwardly. In any case, DakkaDakka has an inbuilt spellchecker that points out basic mistakes in posts. It's worth remembering that not all of Dakka's users speak English as a first language so it's a lot harder for them to comprehend your post if it has poor English. Now, I gather you're not directing your sales pitch at overseas customers, but I assume the purpose of this thread is just to collect some ideas about setting up as a commission painter - hence, you're directing it at all members of various nationalities.

Personally I would echo blood lance in saying that it may have been better to get some examples, from a wide range of GW's ranges, painted up and set into this post. That way, people can instantly assess whether or not your bid to be a commission painter will succeed. You'd be surprised at the sheer amount of people who pass through the P&M forum looking to set themselves up as commission painters and more often than not, people skip right past those threads. Having pictures draws people in and is a vital tool to allow you to push your service as being better than anybody else's service. The only other piece of advice I could give you, bearing in mind I don't do commission or have any experience of painting for others, is not to market your service as 'budget', 'cheap', 'quick' or any other associated words. The simple fact is that if somebody wants a commission done, they are prepared to pay for a full armies worth of models. I wouldn't hesitate to say that what they don't want is a quickly painted army, to a low quality and done on the cheap. I'm not saying your service is low quality (I haven't the pictures to assess that by) but generally people won't pay for low quality when they could do that themselves. Commission painters are in business because people want high quality. This is a hobby that isn't restricted by time as, by nature, it's something that can be chipped away at over longer periods of time.

And as another note, if you're trying to set up a reputation on a forum so people in the future will give you their money, your 4th post shouldn't be you being rude. You need to keep a clean reputation so people will actually bother with you. As well as this, posting how you're contemplating doing something is all well and good, but if you have nothing actually planned, just an idea, this literally holds no value to the future of your business, so why post it? Wait until you have something to show and have that be your first post, not this. Good luck with it though
