Subject: How do you do a Typhus Army?

I've been playing around with Typhus army lists, and I'm having a hard time wrapping my brain around how they work. If you take Typhus, you get plague marines as troops, who (like all MEQs) are good all around, but in the end kind of a shooty unit. However, Typhus himself is choppy. I was wondering what people take in addition to plague marines to support Typhus' choppiness, and how the two portions of the army interact on the battlefield.

The key to strategy is not to choose a path to victory, but to choose so that all paths lead to a victory.
War is beautiful because it establishes man’s dominion over the subjugated machinery by means of gas masks, terrifying megaphones, flame throwers, and small tanks. War is beautiful because it initiates the dreamt-of metalization of the human body. War is beautiful because it enriches a flowering meadow with the fiery orchids of machine guns. War is beautiful because it combines the gunfire, the cannonades, the cease-fire, the scents, and the stench of putrefaction into a symphony.

A big unit of zombies or cultists for him to footslog upstream with wouldn't be a terrible option

Typhus is one of the best HQ units because he dramatically changes cultists.
He makes them fearless and gives them FNP. You are now able to take a few 50 point units that your opponent has to seriously focus on to remove to hold objectives. Now, after 150 points + the cost of Typhus, you have the core of your army. Now you are free to take 'fun' stuff like heldrakes, plague marines, obliterators, landraiders, bikers, and whatever else you want.
Typhus, honestly, would probably be best in a big units of zombies. Or, you could pack him in a landraider with 3 MoN mutilators for a serious combat unit.
The choice is yours!

When the codex first came out, people were trying to run 200+ zombie armies thinking they'd be unstoppable.
However, those didn't work out too well.
Typhus is a boss, and it seems typhus armies work best with 1 large unit of zombies. The best reason to run Typhus with the squad is that he can be easily kept from being engaged in combat for the enemy's pile-in against T10 or things that would ID him, and then he strikes back with his S6 ap 2 daemon/force weapon, which should get a wound through on anything and proceed to force it to death.
In addition, a few small squads of zombies work great for what cultists do best (hide in reserve and come out to grab objectives) and do it way better.
Cultists are pretty much the only competitive CSM troops choice right now, and typhus capitalizes on that.
The best part is that Typhus gives you an amazing army core for dirt cheap. He leaves so much room for everything else.

Zombies are good, cheap scoring units, but if your going to run typhus in a blob, don't upgrade his blob to zombies. If you do, then the unit can not run meaning at most your moving 6" a turn.
As someone who runs a typhus list, I know just how easy it is for opponents to stay out of his threat range.
Plague marines are also very good troops having t5, FnP, fearless, defensive grenades, poisoned attacks, and 2 special weapons in a 5 man unit.
Nurgle obliterators are great heavy support with a gun for every situation, t5, 2+/5+, deepstrike, and 2 wounds.
Add in a heldrake or 2 and you have army with lots of resilience, and good hitting power.

Page number on that? Terminators can not sweeping advance. I see nothing about not running.

Could be wrong, but through terminator armor also meant Slow and Purposeful?
Please correct me if I am wrong.

Hmm maybe Typhus isn't the way for me to go then. For fluff reasons I don't want to run cultists.

Well, Typhus plus Terminators ain't bad either, especially if you deep strike him. Plague Marines as troops are pretty good IMHO.

Was just gonna start this thread myself. Zombies look awesome - the perfect combination of interesting and effective - plus you can get them cheap from third party manufacturers

I love Typhus but hate foot slogging so iv recently been deepstriking him in with 2 or 3 MoN oblit's. Worked well for the few times iv done it, Gives you some firepower on the turn you come down and adds in 4 T5 2+ wounds to soak up any return fire.
