It is the raw stuff of Chaos that leaks into realspace via portals or the appearance of daemons, or found on worlds that are lost to Warpstorms. It is very much a real thing, in the setting.

Look for "The Trials of Draigo" from Flashgitz animation on Youtube. That may clear things up for you, I've never seen it mentioned anywhere else (although I could be wrong).
Edit: I should probably add that it's mildly NSFW.

I think i heard somewhere that there is a drug i nthe 40k universe made from warp dust or pieces of metal or some other warp tainted stuff that the rich folks in hive cities like to use but its really expensive and if you get caught with it its heresy.
Edit: NM it wasn't warp dust. It was called flects(reflections). Tiny little shards of glass tainted by chaos that will get you effed up apparently.

Well, probably a bit more like spice in Dune, since there's only one place (the warp) to get it from, and (I hope) there's no way to synthesise it...

'Flects are a similar concept to warp-dust. A physical object of normal origins (in the case of 'Flects, it's window glass) that is, by whatever means, soaked in the essence of the Warp and takes on Chaotic/Daemonic properties. Though 'Flects are used in the Abnettverse as a drug, I wonder what sort of divinatory functions it might present if used in a more-controlled manner.

Warpdust, Warpstones, and Warptokens are real in Fantasy, though i haven't ever seen mention of it in 40K...
in Fantasy, the Skaven use it to power their magic, weapons, and mutation, as well as currency to trade with each other...

Hmm, I seem to recall reading that the various anti-psyker weapons carried by the GK (and certain other organizations) are said to contain "biological effluvia from the Golden Throne". So... waste materials from the body/corpse of the God-Emperor. Not quite warp-dust, per se, as it's ostensibly meat-space in origin. God poop.

This is totally off topic, but I didn't want to start an actual thread for it for people to ponder on....
Everyone and their dog know that the warp is weird, and users can effectively time travel within it at times.
In theory could a baby be born let's say, 3 months into a warp jump or even within the eye of terror and when they re-enter the normal dimension, be technically -2 months old if the effect of the warp travel made the 3 month in warp travel journey be only 1 month long in the regular dimension?

Or it could be fifty - if its born just before the jump and the jump takes fifty years but is really only a week long due to wibbley time.

Quite possible, yes. However, time does not affect things in a normal manner while in the Warp, so that baby will not cease to exist upon their return to real-space, but nor will it have aged, at all, during its time in Warp-transit. So it will neither be a fetus again, nor will it be a three-month-old, or a one-month old. The time that passes in the Warp simply doesn't count.

It's stated to be the metabolic waste by-product of the golden throne, IIRC. Which is basically a really scientific way of saying poop.

That's actually just ground up Warpstone, which is similar in description but its not quite the same.
In Fantasy, Warpstone is solidified magic. The planet has a warpstone moon that rains down the largest source of Warpstone in the world.
Warpdust would probably be normal dust of some sort that has been exposed to the Warp. So a physical object that has been altered, not specifically solid Warp particles.
