Okay, Dakkanauts -- I am in need of your opinions ...
The GotY Edition of Dishonored came out yesterday and I am wondering if it is worth 40 USD. It apparently comes with all the DLC. Now, just thinking about this in terms of what the base game and DLC cost individually, I realize $40 is a pretty good price.
What I'm further wondering is whether someone like me would enjoy this. I generally don't like stealth games -- for example, I didn't like the latest Deus Ex or any of the Assassin's Creed games. On the other hand, I like the idea of exploring the setting, as with the Bioshock games.
So what do you guys think? What did you think of the game if you got it or plan to get it? If you haven't or won't, why not?

It really depends on how much stealth you're willing to use.
In order to get the non-chaotic ending, you'll need to be mostly stealthy and avoiding killing pretty much anyone. For the chaotic ending, stealth can comfortably take a back-seat as you murderise everyone and everything around you.

Mandorallen turned back toward the insolently sneering baron. 'My Lord,' The great knight said distantly, 'I find thy face apelike and thy form misshapen. Thy beard, moreover, is an offence against decency, resembling more closely the scabrous fur which doth decorate the hinder portion of a mongrel dog than a proper adornment for a human face. Is it possibly that thy mother, seized by some wild lechery, did dally at some time past with a randy goat?' - Mimbrate Knight Protector Mandorallen.

Doshonored is awesome. I haven't finished any of the dlc (I only have 2 out of 3) but the base game is so well done (level design, gameplay and setting=awesome).
My only complaints are that sun shafts aren't rendered very well (odd weve effect and abit over done) and there are some low resolution textures (ie some poster are in low rez).
I got the game really cheap too (less than 10€ for base game and 2 first dlc)

Every time I hear "in my opinion" or "just my opinion" makes me want to strangle a puppy. People use their opinions as a shield that other poeple can't critisize and that is bs.
If you can't defend or won't defend your opinion then that "opinion" is bs. Stop trying to tip-toe and defend what you believe in. |

To get the most out of the game you do have to play it pretty stealthily and this will require quite a bit of save scumming/retries.
I would say dishonoured is alot more forgiving and less arbitrary than most stealth titles but you will still have to play pretty slowly and cautiously. Bodies will often be discovered for inexplicable reasons which can get annoying but there are ways to solve this. I am not the most skilled player but i have still managed to complete the games with no alerts without too much difficulty ('The Flooded District' is probably the only 'difficult' part of the game).
The 'blink' mechanic makes exploring fun and also makes the stealth gameplay less of a chore, mainly because guards are incapable of seeing anything more than 10 ft above them.
I will say that a lot of the flavour text is incredibly bland but some of it is definitely worth hunting down. Money and Runes, which improve your character are not hard to come by and you can have a character capable of dealing with anything the game throws at you by the third level iirc.
The game lacks great main characters and those that show promise are perishingly underwritten and talent like Brad Douriff is criminally under - utilized. There is one main character, Emily, who i thought was excellent however.
The setting is near flawless imo. I could talk at length about how beautiful and functional the architecture is. My favourite feature is that some of the more decrepit buildings and those that have been sealed with wonderfully detailed metal shuttering have the giant four pronged hooks of steel cross-ties visible on the walls.
All the buildings to some extent show a strange combination of Rococo up to Victorian excessive architecture and an already highly advanced industrial revolution. The harsh cast- irons, steels, inductors and pistons are applied as liberally as embellished pilasters and gilt plaster cornice-work.
I cannot speak for the DLC but i wasn't exactly wowed by Michael Madsen's voice acting. Also any Gameplay additions seemed minor.

God-Emperor help me, I respect your opinion, but I'm shocked anyone would think such a thing from Dishonored. This game was a breath of AWESOMELY fresh air in a very stale gaming land. It's absolutely FANTASTIC.
Just be sure to finish the game with very few kills (I couldn't resist killing some people. Some of them were just asking for it) and you'll get the good end.

I enjoyed the game a lot, I did a mix of steath and face melting and got an ending that I liked, I dunno if it was the good or bad one though.
I thought about doing another play through and trying to not kill anyone ever, but I usually lose all interest in a game after I beat it the first time.. 2nd playthroughs last for about 1/4 - 1/2 way through and then I forget about it.
That said, $40 is a good price and worth it iMO

Just beat this game twice. It's a great game but if you don't like stealth then you're not going to like it.

I dunno, I loved the Hitman games so assumed that Dishonored would be right up my street. I Played the first few missions but just found it dull.
That reminds me, I must trade it in sometime.
