My Orks had a great 2500 point double FOC match against my buddy's Eldar this week. My plan was for 2×15 Mobz of Lootas, a KFF Big Mek, 3 Battlewagons of Shoots Boyz, and a maxed out Kannon battery to camp behind two Aegis Defense Lines with dual Quad Guns while a maxed out Kommando unit Ambushed with 3 Bike Bosses. The plan was to hold him off until the Warbosses wrecked/occupied his side of the table, then run the BWs out to grab objectives. Some poor reserve rolls kept them in Reserves until Turn 4, but I was amazed at how well my gun line did 700 points down against his entire list.

It got me thinking about how to run a similar scheme under 2000, probably 1850, without Forge World options. My biggest obstacle is to keep my Lootas safe, so I decided to mount them in BWs and have Trukk Boyz for objective grabbing and mobility. So far I have a KFF Big Mek in one of two BWs filled with 2×15 Lootas and a maxed out Kannon battery manning a Quad Gun behind an ADL. That is 1 Quad Gun less than the 2500 point list (the Shoots Boyz didn't do jack against his T8 and Wave Serpents). The Kommandos are maxed out with a single Bike Boss. Then I have three Mobz of 11 Boyz with a Nob, two in Trukks. I figure the hardest part of this list is keeping my Trukks alive, but since they are mainly for response and objective grabbing, I can even reserve them.

What do you think of this idea? What do you think will give it problems? Should I focus on the Gun Line and forget the Ambush? Any real tabletop anecdotes would be appreciated. Thanks.

I like it. Wish I had an eldar opponent to play against I might actually field my lootas

I am the kinda ork that takes his own washing machine apart, puts new bearings in it, then puts it back together, and it still works.

Only problem with ambush is you can't assault on the turn they arrive anymore, so they still need to survive a round of shooting.

The Kommandos did get lit up after they showed up, but their job is not to assault. They 1) deliver the Bike Boss's Skorcha and 2 Burnas to a tasty target, and 2) provide the Bike Boss with Move Through Cover and ablative wounds.

If Forge World is allowed, then I would would do as I have done before and Battle Brother a Dread Mob Pain Boss to give the Kommando unit FNP. Maybe the Mad Dok or a KFF Big Mek, but I would prefer the KFF to be with the Gun Line.

Since you get to pick where you want to start his rampage, Grotznik isn't much worse than a painboss when it comes to using Snikrot's ambush. Just make sure that your opponent can't easily switch your target for some bait unit during his turn.

7 Ork facts people always get wrong:
Ragnar did not win against Thrakka, but suffered two crushing defeats within a few days of each other.
A lasgun is powerful enough to sever an ork's appendage or head in a single, well aimed shot.
Orks meks have a better understanding of electrics and mechanics than most Tech Priests.
Orks actually do not think that purple makes them harder to see. The joke was made canon by Alex Stewart's Caphias Cain books.
Gharkull Blackfang did not even come close to killing the emperor.
Orks can be corrupted by chaos, but few of them have any interest in what chaos offers.
Orks do not have the power of believe.

I ran Grotsnik with Snikrot a lot in 5th and FNP 5++ Kommandoes were awesome!

The way I played it, and every opponent agreed is that the unit with Grotsnik must assault the closest unit, and then per the multi-assault rules, can assault other units. Of course if you shoot a unit that isn't the closest, then you run into an issue.

I would suggest bringing up the ability to Multi-assault with Grotsnik's unit before the game so you opp. understands.

Fingers crossed Snikrot regains the ability to assault from reserves in the next codex.

I thought you couldn't attach characters to infiltrator/outflanking units unless the character also had outflank/infiltrate in 6th

That's just infiltrate, outflank is fine.

I collect:
Guard - 2k of mostly infantry
DA - 2k of deathwing, 2k of other bits (no vehicles)
Sisters - mostly converted/proxy because I'm waiting for therange to go plastic.
Tau - 2k with no riptides because I can.

Snikrot also has the Ambush Special Rule, whicb is different from Outflank and does allow attached ICs.
