I know there is a couple of threads on this but can't seem to find a concrete answer on it. I'm considering splitting it up into two separate sections, say left hand side of table 50% of ADL pieces and the other 50% of pieces on the right with the quad gun. I'm allying Daemons with Tau so want them kept separate during the game but would like to give a little cover benefit to both.

In the brb, it says each piece must be deployed touching another piece or something like that.

So you can do it as a long line, but not break it up into separate sections.

Its because ordinance is still a word.
However, firing ordinance at someone isn't nearly as threatening as firing ordnance at someone.
Ordinance is a local law, or bill, or other form of legislation.
Ordnance is high caliber explosives.
No 'I' in ordnance.
Don't drown the enemy in legislation, drown them in explosives.

I would love to try a fox hole with a quad gun in the middle... Can that be done?

Think about it for a minute. Seriously. Now reread the rules.

It can't be done.

This can be done by putting two of the long pieces together and then connecting them with two of the short pieces to form an L. Then put the other two long and short pieces together in the same manner and combine the two L's to form a rectangle. You can then put the quad gun inside the rectangle. This meets all the BRB and FAQ requirements of having all sections connected to at least one other section and the wall is not split.

I have thought about it and know there are other threads on this website where other people have done the same hence why I ask of the legality of it. I haven't seen the FAQ but in the BRB it states that one piece must be connected to another piece. So in theory I could place two pieces of ADL down connected to each other and then another two pieces somewhere else on the battlefield connected together. If it has been FAQ that this is not possible then would someone post a link please.

The FAQ is on the GW website under the Errata and FAQ section.

Additionally, you could get two in > 1999 point games, as you can have two detachments then.
