It will be awhile before I can 1) purchase and 2) build all of the drop pods I want for an army. In the meantime, is there anything simple I can use to proxy them, that is still a bit fancier than a soda can or a cup?

Or better yet BEER.. so you can drink after you have had your fill of tears.

I dont think there are any good proxies too it.

If your good at it you could sculpt them out of foam for the proper size but asides from that and paper crafting thats it.

(You should do beer)

Find a hardware store that sells irrigation fittings. Buy a bunch of these:

Put wings on them if you feel the need.

Those would be great stand-ins!

Yeah, I have a couple of pods made from variations of these... One that's almost identical to the one pictured, and one from a slightly different design, with a bunch more that I'll finish off one day

Not sure what you would actually pay for them in-store. I found them for around $10-15 (Australian) each online, so I would expect that US shoppers could probably find them a bit cheaper than that.

With a bit of conversion, I would actually just use those instead of real drop pods forever.

As stand-ins, those are excellent choices. But be warned - a lot of hardware fittings are made of plastic (or nylon or similar) that can be a pain to glue.

I know, right? I am really digging their look.

That reminds me, do they have a more precise name than 'Irrigation Fittings'? Like what specific type of irrigation fitting is the one in the picture?

It's called an 'End Cap'. An 'End Connector' will also do (looks the same, but has a screw thread instead of the bubble on the small end.

I think the ones that I used were 50mm (prices look about right on a quick google), but it's been a while since I bought them.

There are a few extra cheap parts that you can add on to spiff them up a little... I'll try to post a pic over the weekend.
