So the new book is released and confusion reigns. Old headache of 'may replace one weapon with one of the following' is back. So how about replacing both weapons? No one knows.

However, relics have different wording. It merely says 'can take one of the following'. Despite this many people seem to think you can take many; how to they conclude this, I do not know. It says 'can take one'. How much clearer could it be?

(I made this thread to not derail the tactics thread.)

The relevant bit of the Codex says:

ECCLESIARCHY RELICS A model can take one of the following. Only one of each Ecclesiarchy Relic can be taken per army

People are arguing about relics when the entire DEX blows? GW took a second tier army and made them worse.

I have not tried it out on the table as yet so will reserve judgement - but thare some definate improvements (Dominions, small BS squads, cheaper Exorcists etc) and some downgrades.....not sure where the balance point is yet

I think the confusion is derived from the unit profile crossing over the to the armory itself. (Plus its a digital book, its easier to flip over to another page with your hand in a real book than scrolling through or dragging a bar and watching the screen tear)

Although the unit profiles state that the model can take items from x category and so on the armory itself states that a model can take ONE of the following when it comes to relics.

So stacking relics on a model is not allowed, I believe that people have just misunderstood it and just need to re-read, it's pretty much there in black in white and should not be causing any confusion

To compare, the armory sections for the Eldar Remnants of Glory and the SM Chapter Relics states that 'A model can replace one weapon (some of the items don't replace weapons) with one of the following.'

This is effectively the same language as used in Adepta Sororitas, except that the replaces weapons clause is, instead of generic replacement and excepted non-replacement (The Armor Indomitus, the Spirit Stone of Anath'lan), generic non-replacement and excepted replacement (The Inferno Pistol)

I'd argue that, if the Adepta Sororitas Codex restricts models to having only one Relic, the Eldar and SM Codices, having the same language, are restricted as well. I don't recall any FAQs about the SM or Eldar Relic sections, but I remember that the force constructionator thingy at the end of the iPad SM Codex allows for multiple relics on one model, so if that's actually true and not a bug, then I'd say that you can take multiple Relics. That's pretty shaky evidence though, and there probably needs to be an FAQ.

The rules in C:SM has no bearing on what the Sisters can take. "A model can replace one weapon with one of the following" is not the same as "a model can take one of the following".

As it's written you cannot have more than one relic per model, which is a real bummer.

It IS the same. They list as "replace one weapon" - ONE weapon, not two, not three, ONE weapon. If they can take multiple relics, by replacing multiple weapons, although they list ONE weapon, then Sisters can trigger "take one" clause multiple times as SM/Eldar do.

Okay. I just use 'one model may take a special weapon' multiple times too, and equip all my tactical marines with plasmaguns!

The limit is explicitly clear. It is mind-boggling that anyone can have difficulty with this. It says 'can take one'. That's it, one!

I agree, looks like one Relic unless GW FAQs it otherwise. I'll be emailing that in just to confimr though and I suggest others do the same, the more people who ask the more likely it'll get and answered.
