I've begun planning a 500 pts CSM force with which to tackle C:SM, Eldar and IG forces.

Thus far I have gotten the list down to:

-Captain Rotfist w/Pwr fist, MoN [105 pts] (Chaos Lord)
-Cultists w/+2, Autoguns [69 pts]
-Plague Marines w/+2, 2 Plasguns [198 pts]
-Vindicator w/Dozerblade, Combi-bolter [130 pts]
[502 pts]

The tactic here is to stick the Lord into the cultist unit, and then proceed to smash things until I win.

However, I don't usually make 500 pts lists for CSM, and would be very glad of some advice on the matter...

Looks good, fighting at small battles is always a pain.

I think the cultists should a little more bulked out, for more numbers, otherwise looks solid.

Just noticed that I'd under-costed the cultists by two points (miscalculated the cost of the extra two). Put them from 67 to 69 now.

Solid small list. You are going to do well against just about any infantry and have the firepower to deal with bigger threats.

Haha.... 69 points...

But immaturity aside, there appears to be virtually no home objective holders with LC's and ranged high strength-low AP weapons to take out METAL BOXES and the like. A carnifex would ruin this army's day.

I had been thinking about things like that - The Avatar of Khaine is something I've recently played against, and it ate a good 2-3 times its point cost from my army...

Having only one lascannon model and my predator annihilator, I'm not entirely sure what to bring :/

Try this list out. It will decimate pretty much every other army.

Lord - MoN, TA, MB, blight grenades - 130

10 Cultists - x5 auto guns, 1x HS - 60
5 PM - 2x meltas - 140

Heldrake - bale flammer - 170

Total = 500

OR

Lord - MoN, TA, MB, blight grenades - 130

12 Cultists - x7 auto guns, 1x HS - 70
12 Cultists - x7 auto guns, 1x HS - 70

2 spawn - 60
Heldrake - bale flammer - 170

Total = 500

I'd say pm are to expensive at this point cost, why not 20 mon with 4 meltas ( 2 diff squads)csm a cheap lord (u don't need a cc beast at this point cost, )and like a predator or 2 oblits , or a vindicator, I'm doing really rough points so you will have to tweak this list, the t5 will win you most cc so just light stuff up with bolters for a while then charge, also you are I 4 so yeah...

I like these lists very much

The first one would be my preference as it can readily annihilate light infantry, MEQ and vehicles.

The only downside to them, however, is that the Avatar of Khaine has recently appeared in my frined's army, and as he's immune to flamer/melta weapons, I need to think up a craftier way of getting at him.

I have been toying with the idea of taking a predator annihilator in the force, with a vindicator, 2x 10 melee cultists, and (now that you mention it) the chaos lord above

The first list I wrote up could be modified to change the meltas to plasma with fair ease, drop the autoguns and Heavy stubber and use points for plasma, also the Drake can vector strike the Avatar to death.
But there is one more list that could well in 500 points and it would kill the Big Avatar with fair ease.

It goes something like this:

Sorcerer - lvl 3, spell familiar, melta bombs - 130 (roll on biomancy/ joins the havocs)

10 cultists - 50 (keep in reserve)
10 cultists - 50 (keep in reserve)

5 Havocs - 2x las-cannons, 2x auto cannons - 135
5 Havocs - 2x las-cannons, 2x auto cannons - 135

Methinks perhaps a barebones squad of some kind with lascannons is better than fully kitted out stuff.

I like the list, but I'll have to buy some stuff before I can use it (shouldn't be too much pf a problem).

I could make a ten man unit of CSM with a lascannon [160 pts], or what I usually do is put together a seven man havoc squad with 3 ML and a lascannon [166 pts] (the extra two men are cannon fodder).

So maybe:

-Sorceror w/ Lvl 2 [85 pts]
-Cultists w/+1 [54 pts]
-Cultists w/+1 [54 pts]
-Havocs w/+2, 3 ML, Lascannon [166 pts]
-Predator annihilator [140 pts]

[499 pts]

What happens then is you don't have enough to deal with MEQs. I would consider dropping the pred and taking a vindicator instead, as it will grant you far more versatility in taking out hordes and MEQs alike.

Sounds like a plan

-Sorceror w/ Lvl 2 [85 pts]
-Cultists w/+3 [62 pts]
-Cultists w/+2 [58 pts]
-Havocs w/+2, 3 ML, Lascannon [166 pts]
-Vindicator w/dozerblade + combi-bolter [130 pts]

Ooh... 1 point over... Also the cultists appear to be miscosted. Otherwise looks much better than the previous list.
