Subject: FW MKIV Space marine advice needed

hi folks,
need some advice on the FW MKIV space marines please, im looking at picking some of these up as IIRC the MKIV is supposed to be the most advanced mark of power armour out there, the newer version are just easier to make (if this isnt right please feel free to correct me).
now the crux of the issue is ive bought some metal chapter pads to use on them but ive being advised these might be too big by someone (who doesnt have either model or pads) so was hoping could any one confirm if the GW metal pads are too big for a FW mkIV marine and if possible could you let me have pics?
thanks in advance
millest

Ideally you'll want to use the Mk.IV Chapter-specific shoulder pads that ForgeWorld produce, although they only produce them a handful of the founding legions and successor chapters. Mk.VII pads do fit on Mk.IV fine, they are however slightly bulkier than the usual Mk.IV pad size - owing to the increase in bulk for the Mk.VII armour pattern overall.
I'm not sure if the Mk.IV are superior to the Mk.VII. They're usually held (with older marks also) as relics of the chapter, artificer armour and items of great honour.

unfortunately FW dont do a mentors shoulder pad so looks like im left with either metal pads or transfers, i know fluff wise there is a difference in size but just curious as to how much the size difference shows on the models
cheers

FW marines, at least the regular MKIV ones are similar size to plastic marines. If anything they appear larger because of the more upright poses. I don't have the legion version so don't know if they're the same size or not. The command set are definitely shorter.
Point being, the metal pads wont look any more oversized than they would on a plastic marine.

The metal pads from GW tend to be slightly smaller than the plastic ones.
The difference isn't obvious until you put in on a mini & have a regular pad on the other shoulder.
I bought a whole bunch for my DA & am very disappointed.

cheers for the info, though given rising costs ive now got to decide if i want to go down the FW route or use normal plastic marines and stick mkIV heads on them. its a hard call

I ask what chapter you are trying to use these marines for.

What's wrong with transfers? They'd be much cheaper than custom pads.

The FW Marines are gorgeous models and a joy to build and paint, however to do a full army it will be cost prohibitive. If you want an army to be playable soon then using largely standard marines would be the best option. However if you're aiming for a slow build up of great looking models then Forgeworld would be the way to go.

has anyone come across any decent transfers for the Mentors? having seen the pads on the FW marines now they have arrived the metal ones are much too thick rim wise when compared to the other pads (cant swap both as they are recon marines with cloaks) so might have to resort to transfers for these models. though plan on potentially having a plastic force with the metal pads
cheers
