This is a pretty good debate. I would have to see what it says in the Codex: Space Marines 6th ed, to really weigh in on this subject matter. However, I would like to point out. It is and has always been GW intention that any Codex, can and will over wright anything that was put down in the Basic rulebook.

From what I have gathered from hersay, the Black Templars are now pretty much "Vanilla Marines". So until GW comes out with an Update, they should have the same allies as Vanilla Marines.

Cowards will be shot! Survivors will be shot again!

Oh? I thought it was just the Avenger that the SoB could take. This a new rules change? Are they any good on the tabletop?

They're transports, so that's that, not dedicated to any units.

The Arvus is terribad in combat, can only snap fire, but carries as much as a land raider, all for under 76 points.

The Lander has less capacity, meaner firepower and actual armor, but its more than 109 points.

Something I learned from the FW debate in that other thread is that, as per page 108 of the main rulebook, once you're using FW you are already using "custom" army lists - at which point you can just as well give the SoB any flyer you want. Even come up with your own ideas. All that matters is that your opponent is okay with this. Obviously, there's a good chance that other players are more comfortable with FW units than your homebrewed flyers, but how many would oppose you if you'd ask whether you can just use a Valkyrie or a Lightning?

I've never actually paid enough attention to the wording to notice this before. 40k is surprisingly more "open" than I would have thought in all the years before - even the Codex army lists are merely touted as a suggestion, not a rule.

Depends on the group, where I play nobody cares that I use a Valkyrie, even if its not in the Krieg Siege list.

Valkyries are cool. I like valkyries. Plus you can have frateris militia in the form of IG if you do that.

The people in the past who convinced themselves to do unspeakable things were no less human than you or I. They made their decisions; the only thing that prevents history from repeating itself is making different ones.

Lynata's flippancy aside, no, the Arvus and the Aquila have been Fast Attack choices for the Sisters since at least Imperial Aeronautica.

The Arvus comes in squadrons of 1-3, while the Aquila is packaged individually (so to speak). It's also a dedicated transport for a battle conclave, I think.

Just putting my two cents in.

I'd go with BT, for the simple fact that it won't be too long before IG gets a new codex and we don't know for sure if Valkyries/vendetta are going to get a nerf, or price increase.

I like to say I have two armies: Necrons, and Imperium.....

Flippancy? You'll have to expand on that.

Turning Troike's page 108 argument back on her while ignoring the fact that the Arvus and the Aquila are in the FW-modified Sisters list like the Avenger (which was the question actually asked) seems pretty flippant to me.

It's what the book says. One cannot argue using it, and then dismissing it when it stops being convenient.

That aside, it wasn't even my intention to turn Troike's argument back on her (as I was not addressing her in this thread at all), and I was being honest about me not having noticed it before. I see this as a potential solution, both to OP as well as to other SoB players looking to include flyers, and that is what my previous post was supposed to convey.
Obviously, it would be prudent to ask potential opponents in the region or the club you are playing in before making such a purchase and inclusion into the army, but this should be the case if you are including FW too. Not because that army list would suddenly stop being "legal" (as apparently there is no such thing in 40k), but because "legality" is defined solely between the players engaging in the game, or the tournament organiser if you are partaking in one.

It seems flippant to me to get hung up on this and calling me out now.

Troike is a bloke, fyi.

And I never made an argument? I just asked some questions about the flyers.

I ended up getting the Avenger today at a forgeworld stand.

The fact it specifically said SOB's could take it in the book sold it for me, that and it looks cool!
