Bored beyond belief at work and ended up in this section of Youtube. But holy baby jesus this is awesome looking! Not one for LARP up until watching this video, shame it's in Germany.

Anyone been to/heard of this?

(Also, wasn't sure if this was the right forum, seemed off topic enough)

I believe that's the one in Diemelstadt. No experiences with it, but there always seem to be heaps of people putting a gakload of effort into the event and their performances. I have acquaintances that go there and they said they had a blast last year, but LARP is really not my thing so I didn't ask a lot about the event.

It's getting to the point where if I see Marneus Calgar and the Swarmlord in the same unit as a Riptide, I probably won't question its legality.

That's impressive. A lot of it looked choreographed so how do such a large group decide who wins the battles?
I've only ever done steel weapon stuff and that's simple to decide, hit enough people before they hit you and your side wins.

Some of it certainly seemed scripted, but when it turned into a giant melee I can only assume it's either based on a honor system or there are ref's. Saw a lot of dudes who were trying to organize the fighting.

I wouldn't be surprised, there were a number of people in historic kit (ancient celts even!) so I'm guessing a lot of historic reenactors swap out their normal stuff for rubber and have at.
Looks a blast however it's done.

Absolutely fine

The poor man really has a stake in the country. The rich man hasn't; he can go away to New Guinea in a yacht. The poor have sometimes objected to being governed badly; the rich have always objected to being governed at all
We love our superheroes because they refuse to give up on us. We can analyze them out of existence, kill them, ban them, mock them, and still they return, patiently reminding us of who we are and what we wish we could be.

That looks cool.

I want to be an Ork cook that feeds the troops. "Bring me more liver and brains! How can I get my bread to rise without more ground bone?!?!"

I was impressed with the Ork camp actually, how they had some sort of fight between their own guys, very orkish.

Adrift within the vortex of my imagination.

In most such groups there is a storyline for theday, the fight is 'real' people die when hit but the major challenges and plotline is prescripted. A bit like players in an MMO, the real plotline occurs through untouchable NPC's.

There are groups in the UK that do the same and are closely connected if not directly affiliated. The largest in the UK is Lorien Trust which runs 'The Gathering'.

I know a lot of LARPers but never did it. I far prefer steel weapon re-enactment and there are fantasy variants of that. Though most notably a 'timeflux scenario' where the various historical groups have a go at each other. Romans and Samurai vs Vikings etc.

n'oublie jamais - It appears I now have to highlight this again.

Waiting for my shill money from Spiral Arm Studios

I've always wanted to LARP but never had the time.

Also wondered what would be involved in making some sort of electronic health system. Maybe an undergarment which would register impacts and count down your health, maybe through an ear piece and it would inform you when you "died" or were disabled. So an impact of X force to the chest might only cause a little damage but that same blow to the head would kill you.

It could also bring into account your armor and race stats.

Bet it would be real expensive though.

If someone made something like that LARPing would probably go to the next level.

Self-proclaimed evil Cat-person. Dues Ex Felines

Cato Sicarius, after force feeding Captain Ventris a copy of the Codex Astartes for having the audacity to play Deathwatch, chokes to death on his own D-baggery after finding Calgar assembling his new Eldar army.

Some parts of that looked like they were based on Warhammer and LOTR. Pretty sure I saw some Brettonian Knights vs Chaos Warriors. And some Uruk Hai. Awesome.
