They look fairly old, could well be someone a little unaware of the value (or lack of) found these in a storage box under their stairs and thought they'd try for a quick buck?

That's what I thought at first but the website has loads of models.
Some nice ones that are OOP that would be a nice buy for someone willing to go to the effort of stripping them

If the prices are lower than retail price I'd by them and strip them. Thats all it takes.

I actually think its a fair price. The models are ancient, and OOP. Obviously they do not compare favourably to their updated modern equivalents.

If you buy them, it will not be for the paint job, but because you want classic rogue trader /2nd Ed era models. These are not for the typical gamer, these are for classic model collectors and/or gamers with a nostalgic fondness for the models of that era.

Personally, I bought a squad of the old metal Space Marine Scout Snipers 2nd hand a couple years ago, which I believe were released around 15 years ago. I absolutely love them, the sculpting is great and the style isn't so old that they don't fit in with modern Space Marines. The poses are far superior to my more recent plastic scout snipers (around ~10 years IIRC). I don't recall paying much more than £10 or £15 but tbh £30 would have been a fair price. Brand new models from GW cost as much or more anyway.

They're about 15 years old, the models that is. No reason why you should know SM haven't changed that much since the start. At least you aren't linking to an Aussie site complaining about more price hikes!

Anything OOP will be wanted by someone at some time. The prices on that site don't seem that unreasonable to me.

Thanks for pointing the webstore out, I could be buying something from there soon.

Looks like a consignment shop. Someone brought in a box of old painted stuff, the person grouped them into logical batches and is selling them 'as is'.

Cheaper than retail but still good for the old nature of them.

Someone may want to strip them down.

Nazis, not Nazi's. No apostrophe in that plural.

I'd buy those models for much, much cheaper, with the sole intent of stripping them. The worst thing is that you didn't even link the worst paintjobs on there, there are some truly dire ones in there.

If those prices scare you check out the price that the old Slaanesh Daemonettes go for! If its out of production the price will go up because there is no more fresh supply; and what second hand supply there is is erratic (you might see loads one month then nothing for months at a time or longer).

It makes people more apt to pay more now because those items might not be there tomorrow. GW metal models are very popular with many - both the old style designs and also just the metal models instead of working with finecast.

I used to play with those style of space marines about 12-13 years ago. No nostalgia here, they honestly look like crap compared to most of the new marine kits

Are you referring to the old style Tactical Marines, or the old metal scout snipers? If you mean the Tactical then yeah, I agree they look crap but I think the metal scout snipers are great. Much better than my plastic snipers.

Anyway, the point was not that people are nostalgic about the old models because they're better than modern releases (overall, classic models do look crap). But rather that they have fond memories of those days, crap models or no and like to collect classic models. There are plenty of people with huge apocalypse size armies of old classic models.

Those prices are below retail (as has been pointed out, I know) for already painted models.
Now, the "Veterans" unit looks like the helmets on a Tac squad were painted a different color and, thus, presumed to be worth more. LOL On most of those units, though, I could see plenty of people painting them. They meet all tourney painting requirements and I have known more than a few gamers who painted that way already. Why not add some inexpensive units that are at the quality they'd produce, without having to paint them?

Not bad. Pretty good even. Stripping the paint isn't even that hard. In saying that it's the only thing I'd consider buying.
