Is there some secret to making these guys good? It seems to be that Furious Charge is useless both absolutely (+1 S on a strong MC who will just smash?) and relatively vs other god buffs and especially psyker powers.

Maybe one of those Khorne weapons turns this guy into a rape machine the likes of which the other DP have never seen?

Or maybe he's just rubbish and I've hit the nail on the head here? Anyone want to help a guy out?

I think they're worthwhile in CSM armies since you can take AOBF to be constantly at S8 with +D6 attacks.

Woah, that *is* a scary combination! Much more in line with what I'd expect from a Daemon Prince of big K

It's not as brutal as power spamming, but it's cheaper and simpler.

I'm going to take one next game with MoK, wings, power armour, AOBF & the Dimensional Key. Its in a pure Khorne army, but it still seems a lot of points considering S10 Instant kills it, will he be worth his points if played correctly? Or will he always be a liability?

You sought to cower behind your walls, weakling? Instead, by the will of Khorne, you shall die behind them

Remove the key, it's just straight worthless, not to mention you can't get two artifacts due to only one CCW.

There is nothing in the codex that states that it replaces a CCW. And the Daemon prince entry simply states 'May take items from the Chaos Rewards and/or Chaos Artefacts section of the wargear list. So I can take as many as I wish.

And I am holding terminators in deep strike reserve, so it might be very useful....

Automatically Appended Next Post:
It also states in the wargear section that the Key 'Does not replace one of the character's weapons'

This.

The AoBF is kick ass. Especially as it lets you add the D6 to your smash attacks.

A DP of Tzeentch with a mace is better in my opinion. Reroll 1s for saving throws, daemon weapon, the black mace's ability is brutal, and access to mastery levels if you choose.

Unfortunately, Demon Princes of khorne in the CSM codex, at least, are completely pointless. Not just because what makes DPs worth taking compared to other options is that they're beaty AND can take psychic powers... which khorne can't take.

But the real problem is that they compete with a regular chaos lord on a juggernought with a MoK, a sigil, and an axe of blind fury. In order to make a DP equivalent, you've got to give it MoK, the black mace, and wings.

The DP gets +4 WS, and +3I. I'd note, though, that the regular lord already hits most stuff on 3's, and goes first. Oh, and it can smash attack.

The lord gets +1Ld, +1 to its invulnerable save, can give fearless to a squad, can hide in a squad for much, MUCH more durability, can make use of a IoW, and can unlock an elites choice as troops.

And to top it off, the CSM lord is 90 POINTS CHEAPER than the MoK DP. The lord is arguably better at the reason you're taking either of them, and there's no way that the huge price hike is worth whatever little goodies you gain from being a MC with a black mace (much less the detractions).

I can't say about MoK DPs in the demon codex, but I can't imagine that their problems are sorted any better than in the CSM. GW really, really hates khorne right now.

For Daemons, the Khorne prince is cheaper than the other god's princes. because he's not a Psyker.

But the biggest downside is precisely the fact that he's not a Psyker. The psyker princes are just so much better (being able to access Biomancy and Telepathy works wonders on their survival).

For nearly the same cost you could have a Bloodthirster instead.
