Hello,
I am thinking of getting an airbrush set up and I stumble across this on at my local Harbor Freight tool store

http://www.harborfreight.com/16-horsepower-58-psi-airbrush-compressor-and-airbrush-kit-69434.html

The price for it is $89.99 and I have a 20% off coupon so I can pick this set up for about 71 dollars.

This will be my first airbrush and I will be using jus to base coat models at first.

Thanks in advance mond

I have that compressor and its works well.

You will want to change out the pressure regulator as its a bit of a pain to adjust on the fly (little nub at the bottom of the moisture trap. TCP global makes one for about $20 with free shipping and it fits like a champ.

The airbrush is a siphon fed and it would be fine for base coating a lot of models fast, anything more than that and you will waist a ton of paint.

I went with buying the 1/3 HP 3 Gallon Pancake Compressor from Harbor Freight instead of going with the kit, and then picked up a basic Veda Model airbrush off eBay (Works great, can be had for like 20 bucks and is gravity fed). This is the model I am talking about for the compressor:

http://www.harborfreight.com/3-gallon-100-psi-oilless-pancake-air-compressor-95275.html (Note they have two different SKUs for it, but same thing) You can easily find coupons for this bringing it down to $40, or it's usually for sale on one of their sidewalk sales. You might want to check the fine print on your 20% coupon, as those usually don't cover items containing compressors.

I also picked up the airbrush hose, cleaning kit, water trap. and quick connect couplers from Harbor Freight, makes for a nice durable setup.

Aren't pamcakes compressors extremely loud?

Im using this one http://www.harborfreight.com/1-6-hp-40-psi-oilless-airbrush-compressor-93657.html.

It has heat problems and moister trap doesn't work too well.
but otherwise works ok for general use. the one in the pack will probably have the same problems.

Oh yeah, it has a noise to it, but not too bad if you let it fill outside then bring it back in. Unless you are doing a whole night session usually it only kicks in a few times and is pretty tolerable. My main thing with kits like the one HF sells and some of the cheaper ones on Amazon is the regulators are kind of meh and they overheat, I haven't had that issue with the pancake compressor so far.

I've used it for about 4 hours strait and havnt had an issue with it. Its less noisy than the fan in my spray booth. I can listen to a podcast with headphones on just fine over the noise and not have it blasting in my ears.

Since this deal seems just okay does anyone know of any other package deals? I a, looking for an airbrush and compressor to be used initially for base coating but it would be nice to get one that I can do more with down the line as I also like to do regular modeling as well as wargaming.

Thanks,

Mond
