So i built my riptide and i decided to arm it with both guns. So i was wondering if that is WYSIWYG. I will make it clear to my opponent that i will be using either the burst cannon or the ion blaster. Does anyone foresee any problems with this plan?

No, that is not WYSIWYG. If a player can't look at the model and determine what weapons it has, the model is not WYSIWYG.

WYSIWYG means exactly what it says. So it works both ways... if it's in your list, it should be on the model... and if it's on the model, it should be on your list.

Insaniak is right. To clarify: WYSIWYG doesn't just mean that everything has all the options they have taken modeled on the actual figure, it also means that they DON'T have any options modeled on them that they didn't actually take.

There's no option in your codex for the Riptide to have a DCCW, so it's impossible to confuse it for something else. It'd just be a cool looking model, in this case.
For example, I've modeled my GK Grand Master with an axe. It's impossible for him to take an axe, and when I tell people it functions like a thunder hammer, they're ok with it.
The problem comes when you give the Riptide two guns, but it only has one in your list. When you "forget" (cheating or legitimately) during the game and fire both, your opponent will be much less likely to challenge you, since the model on the table has two guns.

You do hit it on the head if I ever have an opponent that does not let me use my riptide because of the two weapons I have on it I don't have to play him I was just wondering form a modeling perspective. I think he looks much cooler with two guns instead of one.

I think he looks much cooler with two guns instead of one. This is not ok. It is quite discourteous--not to mention confusing--to go against WYSIWYG. Your opponent isn't the one with the problem in that instance, you are. If you like the model that much, then you need to find the points in your list to pay for what you're bringing to the table. I think my Stormtalon looks nifty, but when I don't pay for it, I don't put it on the table. I think I did quite a good job modelling my falchion-wielding Termies, but if I don't pay for the specific weapon, I don't use the model.

I disagree with this... There are 15 different armies in the game currently, and it's a big ask to expect players to be familiar with what every unit can and can't take. Anyone unfamiliar with the Tau codex is going to see a model with a DCCW, and expect that this is what it is armed with. It's ultimately no different to giving it two guns...
That doesn't necessarily make it (or your axe/hammer example - I have the same thing going on in my Space Wolf army) a problem... it just means that you need to take the time to make it clear to your opponent before the game, and if you're entering an organised event, check with the organiser beforehand to ensure there are no problems with it.
The odd model going against WYSIWYG isn't generally a big issue... but it needs to be okayed by your opponent to make sure they don't have an issue with it.

Someone mentioned magnets. I recently got into magnetizing and it has changed the entire hobby forever in a good way for me. I had the same problems wanting my guys to look cool so I have like: twin chainswords, plasma lightning claw. Stuff I'll never use. Now I'm magnetizing a lot of my arms/weapons so I can still play with the cool looking guys If I want but also have the option to appease people who are strict when it comes to wisywig.

From a modeling perspective I've done it both ways. Its all about the rule of cool for me (and most non-competative players I've met). If the model looks cool its the right way to go.

You'll thank yourself later for magnetizing it.
Some models are much easier to do this for than others, depending on how they designed the model.
Some people have said WYSIWYG is a courtesy to your opponents, and I agree with that, but there is another benefit. Namely, it makes it easier for *you* to remember exactly what it is *you* are running.
Being able to take a glance at one of your own units and know that it has 5 railguns or 2 markerlights makes it so much easier than constantly having to refer back to your army list.
Finally, magnetizing them means you'll end up spending less in the long run.

Just out of curiosity, has anyone suggested you use magnets, yet? Because you should.

Greebo had spent an irritating two minutes in that box. Technically, a cat locked in a box may be alive or it may be dead. You never know until you look. In fact, the mere act of opening the box will determine the state of the cat, although in this case there were three determinate states the cat could be in: these being Alive, Dead, and Bloody Furious.

Magnets are the way to go. I keep a metal file handy and stick all my unused magnetized bits on there in between games. Easy to transport and if the damn cat knocks it off the desk they don't go flying everywhere.

I do the same, except with a strip of metal. Doesn't have to be that big, just large enough to attach all the extraneous parts to. In my garage I also have metal shelves which everything I'm not currently using is stored on.

While everything that has been said in this thread is true....
any opponent that gives you serious gruff about modeling a riptide like that isn't really someone you want to be playing against.
It's easy to remember what an opponents 200 pnts+ riptide is using as its main weapon.
It's tough to remember what power wep your opponents HQ is using aswell as his termies AND vetern squad. Then his allied Tau are using pulse carbines and HYMP over the railguns it just becomes unmanageable. That's were WYSIWYG is important.
Do it right, magnetize your models. You'll be more happy in the end, but if your tide has both weps glued on and looks badass don't bother.

If you can't be bothered to magnetize (maybe the two weapons are already glued on there good and you don't want to rip one off and mess it up) just stick a Post It note over the weapon you aren't using.

While magnetising is the best way to do it, I have to disagree with your first point. Calling someone on WYSIWIG for something like that isn't being TFG. LIke someone else said, if you suddenly "forget" which weapon you're armed with, either through cheating or genuine forgetfulness then it just makes things complicated within the game and further adds to the things that you have to remember like, as you said, remembering Power Weapons, etc, which should still be modelled appropriately for the same reason.

Does anyone go into a game without having a written list of your force choices and their wargear taken? It should never be an issue proving what a model has paid points for (provided your opponent isn't a sinister mid game list editor).
Magnets are fun and I highly encourage them. However, I would not make them mandatory for my opponents or deny them a wargear choice because they chose glue over magnets. Tournaments are a separate issue and can vary by location.
