There are not now nor has there ever been these things you call Squats. (whispers) " Is the Inquisition gone yet...?"

Well that being said the best source I have seen on the matter was the old white dwarf 40k compendium from 1989 if you can find and gain access to a copy.

The quest you seek to undertake is not accomplished lightly. You must journey far. Far into the darkest reaches of the darkest realms until you find the oldest, dingiest GW store on the face of this Earth. There you must utter the password, which is of course "I want to buy a Heldrake", and you will be granted entry.

Lurking in the deepest shadows of this ancient place will be a strange shape, illuminated by a single painting lamp. However, you cannot approach this most hallowed of creatures empty-handed. You must first tempt him with an offering of exquisitely rare Devlan Mud Wash, and say the words "Target Priority Test". He will stir, look up from the Space Marine he is painting, and gaze upon you. Then you will see the Old-Timey 40ker in all his glory.

His eyes, used to focusing on miniscule details mere inches in front of his face, will struggle to keep you in sight, and he will probably ask your opinion on the highlighting he is doing. You must tell him he is doing well, and suggest a colour for the eyes of his Marine. He will ignore your advice, for he knows more about the world of 40k than you possibly could. Nevertheless, the precious bond that exists only between tabletop gamers will have been formed, and you will be able to ask about the fabled Squats.

You will then be privy to a truly wondrous experience, as every long-forgotten detail of the out-of-production Squats will be revealed to you, with boundless enthusiasm and countless White Dwarf references. What you choose to do with this newfound power is entirely up to you.

I believe there is an entry in the 6th edition rulebook. That being said all it says is that they are a subhuman.

Best you can do is look for old rulebooks on the net with info about the squats (i miss them and the imperial beastmen!)

Please refer to your copy of 2nd edition Codex Imperialist for 40K scale Squats.
For Epic sized formations and war machines refer to the Epic supplement Warlords which covers Orks and Squats.

White Dwarf 111 contained some of the best info. I used to own a copy but it was unfortunately stolen. You might be able to find PDFs online, but I found this blog online with some screenshots:

http://freakyfreminiatures.blogspot.ca/2011/05/demiurg-squats-rulebook-white-dwarf-111.html

This is what they looked like back then. If GW had kept developing them they would probably look a lot different today (just like everything in 40K). I think they could easily be worked back into the game in some form... There just isn't anyone at GW currently that is interested.

You can likely pick up the old Warhammer 40K compendium on ebay for a few quid - that has quite a bit of stuff on the Squats
