I am making a 1000pts list, somewhat oriented against killing some Tau.

Without further ado, here's the list:

As I said, this list is primarily to be used to kill Tau.

What do you people think? How can I improve it?

Well for starters I would drop the heavy wep squad and spread your Auto cannons around your infantry squads so they can't all be took out in one shooting attack, it also gives them lots of survivability as they are hidden in 10 man squads.

Here's my revised list, now down to 960pts. What would you change? What should I add for the last 40pts?

Okay mate, well I would do this.....drop the mortar in your ccs for a lascannon as you want to take advantage of their ballistic skill of 4. I would put your pcs in the chimera instead of your infantry squad and give them 4 Flamers, very toasty little squad

Doing that gives me an extra 75pts (from the removal of the Chimera). What'd you spend those on?

I'm thinking of adding Stormtroopers to deepstrike my opponents riptides and melta them to death. Thoughts?

Its a good question, I have not tried meltavets deepstriking into Tau.

I have done ok vs Tau with this 750 point list

CCS, standard, moo: 95

PCS, autocannon: 40
PIS, LC: 70
PIS, LC: 70
PIS,LC: 70

PCS, autocannon: 40
PIS, LC: 70
PIS, LC: 70
PIS,LC: 70

Griffonx 2: 150

It is really hard vs Tau to be honest because they have so many large blasts going on, so dont bunch up too much. However this list have some serious long range firepower with 6 lascannons, 2 autocannons, moo and griffons x2. If he is riptide heavy you could swap out some LC for AC.

Problem is cheesy Tau lists can just run broadsides+riptides to simply blast anyone off the table/objectives. This list can runs a similar style and can dish out the pain nicely too. With the griffons you can clear baddie troops off objectives or just pummel anything squishy trying to hide from LOS - fun fun!
