Black Templar Recruit Undergoing Surgeries
|
How normal is it for one chapter to give another a gift like a tank, term armour, or give them something that would be an adaptation to thier gear? And not a predasesor chapter giving stuff to one that came from them.
Like blood angels giving a gift to ultramarines. Or salamander to black templar.

Depends on their bond and doctrines really.
I one chapter saves anonther from the jaws of an enemy, the chance is great that the savior gets honored in someway.
Salamanders would not be likely to give Black templar something, because the BT are fanatics and the sally's are a chapter for the people.

If two chapters collaborated in an event of historical significance they might commemorate it with an exchange of gear. Or a gift might be given in exchange for aid in a time of crisis.

Blood Ravens artificers once crafted a Power Axe in Ragnar's honor, named Gift of Blackmane, and intended to send it to Fenris as a gift. When informed of this, Ragnar is said to have laughed aloud and remarked, "Let them keep their trinkets" (this is from dawn of war two)
Sometimes the gifts arent well recived.

If I remember correctly it was the marines errant that were gifted with term armour from the ultramarines for exemplary performance on a crusade. It is still painted in UM colors, in memory.
I could have it completly wrong aswell so don't take it as fact.

Ragnar probably thought the Blood Ravens were trying to pass off stolen goods to him. They steal a power-axe from another Chapter, slap a fresh coat of paint on it and glue some skulls or something to the blade, there, totally *not* the axe we got from those other guys, see?

It is best to be a pessimist. You are usually right and, when you're wrong, you're pleasantly surprised. |

There is an old piece of fluff that talks about a suit of Ultramarine Terminator Armour that was gifted to the Blood Angels.
there was a patch of the original chapter markings that was left unpainted, because whenever the suit was painted fully as a Blood Angel, the occupant was killed.
I think it was published in the RT era red book.

Yup. One of my favorite bits of fluff. That reminds me, I keep meaning to paint a BA symbol on one of my terminators. This would be to represent that suit of armor, returned to us. But the BA symbol to represent the battle honors earned in the service of angels.

Actually found a good reference on Dakkadakka... http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/500939.page
Reprinted here for your convenience:
It was in a white dwarf article and then reprinted in the White Dwarf W40k Compendium. Page 16 of the compendium. Brother Levi is wearing it.
"Levi." The bolter's magazine was tiny in comparison to Levi's power glove, but he had no trouble in sliding it home. There was a click and the bolter's catch held the magazine. Levi shook his head, working the helmet seals carefully into place. His suit was battered and scarred and badly in need of repainting. It wasn't even in the proper chapter colours, having come from the Ultramarines armory a generation before. Bare metal showed in several places. Levi, like many of the suits previous users, had refused to let the Techmarines repaint it. Every time it's Ultramarines colours had been hidden, the suits wearer had been killed. Levi maintained that the suit knew it was only borrowed, and even the techs had come to believe the same. They had given up trying to persuade him to have it repainted in the proper colours.
Automatically Appended Next Post: As for gifts, I recall another of those old fluff pieces where two different Chapters worked together on a long and dangerous campaign. One was the Crimson Fists, I believe - and the others Black Templars. While they didn't exchange actual pieces of wargear (at least not enough to be mentioned in the story) they did exchange heraldry, which is a very significant gift too. The Black Templars painted their left gloves red and the Crimson Fists painted the templar cross on their right knees.
