Subject: Help me with a Dwarf Paint scheme

Hey guys, I received a large order of highborn merc models for my new army and I am just getting around to painting them. I really do not like the light brown scheme from the books but I am not really sure what scheme would work with them. I generally run dwarf centric highborn lists with lots of solo support and I want most of the solos to have unique color schemes but I want the Rhulic warjacks, warcasters, and forgeguard to be similar.
I was thinking a dull metal style, perhaps using pig iron as the primary and then making a brass color for piping and small detail items. I was thinking I could then use some watered down black to tarnish the shiny metal finish and perhaps make smears of oil around the brass fittings. What do you guys think?

I think that sounds pretty cool.
You could always use an ink or even an oil wash to tone down the silvers.

Whatever you do, add as many hazard stripes as possible. I´ve seen someone do it online and it looked awesome!

I was gonna say don't do this, because everyone does it

How about a 1.4S hazardous material label on the side of Durgen Madhammer's gun? That's a label used for shipping explosive devices.

Hmm, why don't you like the studio scheme?
Not sure if you will like this any better, but how about using a dunkelgelb scheme like late-war German armor from WW2?
Here it is on some PP models for reference.

I've found agrax earthshade to be the best for tarnishing metal.

I have always felt that dwarves are too practical to really paint their armors. To me, they have always prized functionality and craftsmanship over pretty looks so it seems odd to me that they
would cover up ttheir precisely machined weapons and armor with dirt colored paint.
I am mostly done painting durgen but I don't like how my colors came out. The brass is too gold and the iron is too shiny. I am going to try and dull it down some great cloak grey. Maybe that will matte the gloss. I will toss up a photo later when I get home. Thanks for the sgguestions, I will try them out when I receive my forge guard order next week.
