If I have a commander attached to some marker drones, and the commander has both a velocity tracker and a drone controller, do the marker drones fire at flyers at bs5, assuming the commander is also shooting at the flyer (with say a missile pod or something)? If so, why not, but units are allowed to expend markerlight tokens to increase their bs beyond 1? Wouldn't the precedent for the order of operations being deduction then addition work?

Its my understanding that the velocity tracker is a peice of Wargear not a special rule, and as such, the drones cannot use it as they would a special ability. So wile the commander shoots fliers at BS5 still. the Drones will still fire at BS1.

Basically the drones are BS5, but are strill shooting at fliers at BS1, because they cant benefit from a peice of wargear that an independant charecter has.

That way,then left

While they do get the commander's BS, they still fire snap-shots when targetting a flyer, so you still resolve their shots at BS1.

Pleasant - the answer is: because Snapshots, according to the FAQ, comes last UNLESS your special rule states otherwise.

Markerlights specify otherwise, so can raise the BS of a snapshot.

The Commander has Skyfire, the drones dont. So they have BS5, but the shot is resolved at BS1 due to snapshot

Great point about the snapshots, but I don't understand why markerlights work then. You snapshot when you shoot and get to use the markerlights to boost your BS, if the sanpshot thing owuld apply here wouldn't the order of operations be:

Add BS for each markerlight you spend > go to BS1 from snapshotting?

In contrast for markerlights to work the order would need to be:

BS1 from snapshot > add BS from markerlights spent

Which brings us to the order of operations being reduction then addition, so the drones would go to BS1 from snapshotting then check the commander's BS for their shooting and thus be BS5

Ah, I see, I didn't see the FAQ bit making snapshot last, my apologies.

Absolutely not.

The Commander has the option to fire using Skyfire thanks to the Velocity Tracker. This is in no way passed on to his drones.
The Drones shoot using his Ballistic skill.
The Drones are forced to take Snap Shots.

Nothing prevents the Drones from making snap shots, so they snap shot their BS5 firing at effective BS1.

Even if the VT was just straight up Skyfire, the drones would not be shooting at full BS at air. Reason being: Drone Controller specifically says "user's BS" and nothing else. Skyfire is a rule to negate snapfiring against fliers, its not directly a ballistics skill in any regard.

Same goes for the counterfire equipment. The commander shoots overwatch at BS2 because he has a rule saying he does - the drones are BS5, but lack this rule since the DC does not transfer any special rules over, so they still overwatch at BS1.
