With the next movie about to be released, has GW announced a new boxed set/boxed game yet? Conversely, has there been anything saying they are not going to produce one?
Thanks
Jake

There's been nothing as yet (although there never really is at this point), but there was something in N&R a while back about some models not being up-to-scratch. Can't remember exactly where though.
Also, the fact that GW started this stuff when it was going to be 2 movies may mean they only had 2 sets planned, which I'd guess would be Goblin Town and Battle of Five armies. This potentially leaves film 2 with nothing. If they were to do something, I'd guess it would be something Mirkwood/Dol Guldur themed, as they won't put Smaug in a starter set (when they could sell him for upwards of £75 going by size and existing big pieces like mumakil, which he looks to be about twice as big as.), and I doubt they'd duplicate Thorin's Company in another starter set.
So to be honest, I'm not expecting much for the second film period, maybe just a few character pieces (Beorn, Thranduil, Bard, Bilbo version 7,089) and maybe plastic boxes of Spiders, Mirkwood Elves and maybe new Orcs. Then again, the third film is out next summer, so that amount of releases spread over 6 months is pretty reasonable. If only the prices weren't so ridiculous...

If there is any announcement, it would be in December's White Dwarf which won't be released until the 30th.
According to wikipedia, The Hobbit: There and Back Again is slated to be released 17 December 2014.

On the tyranid thread people are insisting that there won't be a new box because FETHING SMAUG was supposed to be in it.As I said on that thread:It would be like a thunderhawk and a cultist,or a thunderhawk and 13 HQ choice. And a cultist.(bilbos the cultist. If you couldn't tell.)smaug is probably going to be changed since on the extended edition instead of four legs and wings,He's changed to front legs are also wings.
But I don't see why they couldn't make a boxed game. All they need to do is shove miniatures that going to be released seperatly in one box.Several people on the one ring and the last alliance have said that desolation won't have a new book. It'll probably be a new source book.In days of old they could produce a Rulebook a year because they were cheaper and had to be polished into a good game.(cavalry for example)

I'd be perfectly happy with a 'Desolation of Smaug' journeybook and the miniature releases. I play Hunter Orcs so I didn't buy the 'Escape From Goblintown' box either, just the hardback rulebook.

I doubt there'll be a new box in December, though there may be one in January.
Think about it, the film is out on the 13th and I very much doubt New Line will allow GW to show what will be potential spoilers before then (or at least the premiere, which is the 11th I believe). That means GW have a very short window to put it up for pre-order and get it sold. It's not a viable tactic for GW, imo, especially when those few weeks should be the busiest and most profitable of the year for GW. It'd be safer for them to release something like Nids and get a decent, stable, Christmas income bonus.

Their will be new kits that is all and it will come out Jan at the earliest maybe even mid month but I doubt it. There will be no New box set. I don't think the starter will change especially since they still haven't finished selling the "limited" edition from the first movie. I'm pretty sure we will see a half dozen new kits but no new starter box.

Thanks for the input folks. I'm not a huge GW fan but love the boxed LOTR games. My daughter and I had a blast with the Mines of Moria and Escape from Goblintown. The simple scenarios and included terrain make these a 'game in a box' which we expand as desired, but the base contents have proven a blast for us.
I would love to see another for each of the movies as a result.

I honestly think you would love the journey books. They are small scale scenerios of the first 3 movies. I am fairly certin they will come out for the hobbit series as well. It also gives you and excuse to collect a good sample of minatures from across the ranges
