Subject: Resale value of old White Dwarf issues?

I'm going to a Wargame Convention next weekend and will have an opportunity to sell some of my things at the flea market. I have about 5 years worth of White Dwarf issues that I don't use anymore so I figure I might as sell them off, but what price would you advise?
The issues that I'm looking to sell are some of the more recent ones from when GW began to massively expand its Citadel terrain ranges with lots of plastic kits, and the ethos of White Dwarf shifted focus from being a hobby magazine with emphasis on tutorials for scratch building terrain and model conversions to a magazine very heavily focused on advertising and pushing sales of GW's own terrain kits.
So I'm keeping the older issues that have lots of tutorials and articles on cheap scratch built terrain as these are actually more useful to me (being someone who dislikes the horrible homogoneity of GW terrain these days and who prefers the visual variety, originality and cost effectiveness of scratch built terrain).
How much do you think people would be willing to pay for the more recent White Dwarf issues? £1? £2?

In my experience the only white dwarfs that ever got sold 2nd hand where normally the ones with the old sisters of battle rules in them. Other than that in all my years i havent seen people sell them very frequently. If at all.

Well I picked up some old white dwarfs for €2.00 each. So I'd say go in between £1.50.

I wouldn't pay for a WD unless it had some of the older more interesting stuff like the custom baneblade or the mini games (the Horus Heresy one with tokens that I just can't remember the name of) or some really interesting fluff. Nothing past about 150 I'd say. Modern WD... I don't buy it for a reason.

Yeah, if you don't have a WD with actual rules content or amazing tutorials, it probably won't sell for much. A dollar is probably the best you'll get for each.

I'm still counting how many issues I have, but I'm thinking if I set them at £2 each, I could also offer a flat price of say £20 if someone buys the entire collection. That would be quite a lot cheaper than buying them all individually at £2 each.
Also, I have a copy of WD390, the "Aerial Assault" issue with the 5th Ed rules for the Storm Talon and Ork Bombas/Jets. Would people still want this issue for the rules or will they just not care now that 6th Ed is out?
edit...by recent, I mean issues from around 2005 - 2010. I stopped buying regularly about 3 years ago, and IIRC have only bought 3 issues since then. The rough cut off point for which issues I want to keep and the ones I want to ditch is ~WD300. After that issue, the amount of actual hobby content drops off dramatically.
Wargames Illustrated is my magazine of choice now. Automatically Appended Next Post: Just found a gem. WD322 (Oct 2006) - the issue with Andrew and Nicola Taylor's fantastic fully converted Adeptus Custodes army. Automatically Appended Next Post: Just counted them all.
62 issues of White Dwarf.
I could sell them individually for £1, or the entire collection for £20 - £30.

You're not going to get a lot of cash really for issues from that period. Not a lot of great content in them. As you said, there are a few gems but on the whole...
Salvage what you can for yourself and stick them in a folder. As for the rest... well, winter is coming and all that. We know the best use for them

At most UK convention bring & buy stalls, WD's go for between £0.50 and £1 each, but a few bring and buys don't accept any magazines now as they are fiddly to sell, make little commission for the club and often don't sell, so check before you take them that they will accept them.
Also, I can highly recommend switching from Wargames Illustrated to Wargames Soldiers & Strategy unless you are a big FoW fan. WSS has significantly more reading in it (IMHO).

I think I do buy WSS from time to time when it has stuff of interest to me (Japanese Samurai, Dark Age europe, Medieval europe, terrain and painting tutorials etc) but I favour Wargames Illustrated as it has a close relationship with Gripping Beast and regularly features GB's Dark Age skirmish game SAGA that I'm getting into (my other two games are Warhammer 40K and LOTR SBG). I don't subscribe to WI, I just get it from time to time when the issue is interesting for me.

In that case, if I sold them for 50p each, with a conditional offer of £20 for the entire collection would that have any chance of selling? Really, after having flicked through my collection I think it would be a good offer.
For the price of 4 crappy 2013 era WD issues (post glossy catalogue redesign), you'd get 5 years worth of content - battle reports, tactica's, painting guides, terrain articles (there are a few good articles in my collection based on the Citadel terrain kits, Cities of Death in particular, that might actually be of interest to people who use those kits). Theres also a fair few rules articles. The Spearhead tank battle expansion, the original 5th Ed rules for Stormtalon and Ork Bombers/Fighters, plenty of scenarios for all three core systems, a couple of Apocalypse formations IIRC.
Maybe I'll get lucky and meet a parent who has a kid thats very much into Warhammer etc.

I have just recently sold off a HUGE white dwarf collection (going back to issue 84) and I can tell you that there is very little interest in anything above about number 225. Unless some one is looking to fill gaps in a collection, but your probably not going to see much of that at a local event.

Do you think £20 for an entire collection of 62 issues would sell? Thats 5 years worth of content, for the price of 4 modern WD issues that are even worse than the ones I want to ditch. There is at least some good stuff. Scenarios, a few rules for new model releases, WD expansions (Spearhead), terrain articles for Cities of Death, painting guides.

Usually not worth anything more than the shipping cost online at places like the swap shop here or bartertown unless they have new rules for 40k that you can't find elsewhere and are still current. I've never tried selling them in person and just threw away my old white dwarfs from the late 90s early 2k except for issues that had particular sentimental value.

I'd try selling the bundle for £20, someone might have a burst of nostalgia and take them off you. But I'd be prepared to drop it to £10 to shift them, bearing in mind that the reason you want to get rid of them is because it's after the point where the content started vanishing.

There are no shipping costs. I'll be selling them in person, at the flea market of a wargames convention this saturday. The only costs are the £10 or so I'll be spending on train and bus tickets to get there, and I'm going anyway so might as well try to sell this stuff.

You have 62 issues. Even if you sell them for 50p (which is more than a fair price), you get £31, which is no small amount of money.
I'm not sure how these conventions work, but perhaps start them off a little higher (perhaps a £1 or 80p or something) at the start of the day, and drop them to around 50p towards the end.
And, as you say, deals on multiple issues would be a good idea. Though I'd try and get at least £30 for the whole collection.

I picked up about 10 yrs worth of white dwarfs (three huge boxes just fuullll of em)
for free off kijiji
I might have paid 5$ for the whole lot, but probably not, I just wanted them to kill time looking for pictures/articles or maybe some cut out terrain...
I really doubt I would have even paid 5$ for them tho
if they redid WD to have at least terrain in the back, i might even subscribe again

I've sold quite alot of WD's in the past.If it's an edition with a codex, one with some figure packaged with it, or one of the old ones with card terrain in it you might get a couple bucks. Otherwise not much.
I like WD pre 2000, so I pick up batches when the appear for a buck or less (usually around fifty cents) and issue. The leftovers I sell them at the FLGS auction. When I was able to package up a complete year, I got about 8-10 bucks for it. Other issues I bundled them by similar date and probably got a buck or less each.
My FLGS occasionally sells old WD's for a buck. The exception is the much older ones (pre #100) which they have on sale for 3-5 bucks each.
Long story short, package and sell by year when possible and price at 4-8 quid per year.
