Hi, all.
Noob mode engaged: prepare yourselves, Dakkanughts.
Now, I'm new to Warhammer 40,000, table top wise, so you could say I've been living under a rock when it comes to other table top games - turns out there's other, non-Games Workshop games, who knew?
Anyway, I've just found Spartan's Dystopian Legions: http://www.spartangames.co.uk/products/dystopian-world/dystopian-legions
While I have seen Dystopian War models at my local gaming shop, I never saw Dystopian Legions models. According to Spartan it's a new game. I must say, I think it looks awesome.
Does anyone play it? If so, what'cha think?
Trying to find someone to play with might be tricky, lol.

An Armour Save? No, never heard of it. Me? I play Imperial Guard. |

I've got a few of the models, and they're very nice, but I've never played. If we ever play I'll come back to ya.

Keep me posted.
Looks like it's too new. No one else?

If I recall correctly, there were high hopes for those minis as IG stand-ins, but they are way taller.
A fellow Dakkanaut, Ironbovin, painted our FLGS sets as a favour. He says he'll never do it again, because the details are very soft so it is hard to figure out where such and such detail starts and stops. Of course, this might be different from cast to cast, so YMMV.
As a game? No idea.

I've been collecting and playing Dystopian legions since it was released.
I had played GW games for about 14 years by this point and have gotten very bored of their game design and the background.
I really enjoy the games of Dystopian Legions that I have been playing though. I find that it provides much more opportunity for strategic thought.
The attack mechanics are highly random, although I just take that as the opportunity to ensure my strategies are robust enough to mitigate bad luck.
One of the big drivers of thought in the game that I really like is the "Order of March" sequence each player organizes at the beginning of each turn to determine when their units will activate. In general the players take turns activating units to move/attack, but at the beginning of the turn each player decides the order they will activate their units. This doesn't really come into effect when the forces are small, but really comes into its own as they start increasing.
I also find the game cards are important to keeping each game interesting, because the players never know exactly what their opponents units are capable of. I always have an idea of what can happen but the exact power/survivability/actions of my opponents will depend on which cards they have in their hand that turn.

Hmmm, interesting. The models themselves look like they're good quality. There's only one way to know for sure. I'll 'ave to get some.

The rules are free from Spartan Games website, so if you haven't had a look at them yet I suggest you do.
I've read through the rules. They seem pretty fun, but random. I haven't played it, and won't any time soon, but I haven't dismissed it entirely.

Regarding the rules, it's all about who can make the most dice explode yet again.

That is not true. Hell, play as the FSA and you'll be virtually unable to make ANY dice explode.
Their basic weapons only use standard dice hitting on 4+, and only have some special weapons that get 2 hits on 6. They have virtually no exploding dice weapons.
In the game outside of the EotBS the only real weapons with exploding dice are the artillery pieces and mounted on vehicles, and that's because they have a limited number of dice to roll.
The game is MUCH more focused on how the players organize their activations, use their game cards, and use their command abilities.
I also love how characterful the vehicles are in the game. They are very tough. The "small" tanks probably won't be able to be killed in most games. But they have restricted firing arcs, their weapons will be unable to decimate entire units (as opposed to 40k), and they have restricted maneuverability allowing clever opponents to keep the vehicles from overwhelming the game.
