Hello, Dakkanaughts.
I'm always trying to improve my painting skills, and this is my latest attempt at 'skill', lol.
This is only the second time I've painted a vehicle, all my others were done in one batch.
I followed Forge World's Masterclass book, and it used oil paints and sponges, and other techniques new to me. Over all I'm happy, but I think it's missing... 'something'. I believe it might be too dark.
The scheme is simply 'green'. I didn't want a rusty look, just a dirty, muddy look.
I'm really interested to hear how I might improve. Any suggestions, any noob mistakes that you can see? Is it simply just crap?
Thanks for lookin '.
Edit: I took better photos in the third post. Sorry, should've done that first.
Believe it or not, but it's miles better then one of my first vehicles:
Thanks for looking.

Not crap at all m8, in fact it's a realistic paintjob and you should feel good about it. For your second vehicle it's great and the only thing I would add is some scratches. But all in all a top job

Even better... nothing wrong with that fella. Great second tank and a good foundation to build on

Not too shabby! I like the dirty look you've achieved. The realistic approach is typically best in my opinion. Keep posting your progress!

Looks really good, very well weathered. I would hit it with a matte varnish to bring down the shine though.

Thank you, kindly.

It's had two coats of matte varnish already. Time for a third?

Alright, I've gone back and forth between your model and showcase models. And it's obvious you're going for a dirty effect, and this is where I see what I consider to be the biggest (and only) flaw of the model.
Your tracks should be dirtier.

GW Texture paint (the mud coloured one) might add something extra (as in blobs of muck on the tracks) if you are going for a realistic look.

Thanks for the comments. Yes, I was going for a dirty look. Nothing too covered in mud, but old and dirty. The 'theme' of my army is a forest setting, so I thought about adding leaves and bark etc. to the tracks, but I thought that might be too much.

Thanks. I'll look into it.

1. Could you give us a close up shot of a side panel? I'd like to take a look at the wear and tear.
2. Is it just me or is the turret grey and a different color than the rest of the tank?
3. A lot of the photos look very washed out, which makes it hard (for me) to give you a more comprehensive opinion.
Overall though, it looks good (great for a second vehicle). Weathering is always fun and everyone has a different recipe of how to get there.

Here you go. Might be a bit pixley. The only camera I've got in the one on my mobile phone.
No, the turret is the same green as the rest, it might be that it's been splattered a bit more with mud, though.

Looking good! The stains and rust look right and not overdone giving it a realistic look. I think a little more scraping might look good on the sides and areas that would get more wear. But that's just me, 8) I do really like the worn look
