Just played this list in a local 700 pt tournament and had good luck with it, although it is quite Cheesy
HQ
Nurgle Lord on bike w/ power weapon & combi melta
Troops
10 Cultists
10 Cultists
Fast
Helldrake
Helldrake
4x Bikes w/ 2 meltas & combi melta
there it is! Next week i play 900 pts and im unsure of what to add.
Here is my battle report w/ this list
Tyranids: Mission was the relic and hammer and anvil deployment, he goes first
He ended up pooping out 45 gaunts and just flooded the objective
i managed to clear a lane by turn 4, but time was called (1 hr limit is BS)
We ended up tying, one mor turn and i would have won but oh well
Dark Eldar: played my rival today and beat him! mission was kill points deployment was vanguard
Rolled 4 for strategic so i got to reroll reserves and siezed the initiative
Literally his all my units until helldrakes came and they did EVERYTHING
Ended up getting minor victory
Necrons: mission was emperors will he used anhilation barge spam
He moved his destroyer lord up to far and i killed him turn 2 w/ vector strikes
Kept my bikes in the backfield to support the cultists and they popped a barge
I just parked my drakes on his objective and kept his gakky robots of of there, ignored his other barge, and ghost ark, i just focused on troop killing and it won me the game!

For 900 points I would maybe suggest adding a couple of oblits with mark of nurgle. These give you great flexibility as you can deepstrike next to tanks and melta or sit back and blast away. I'd spend the remaining points on buffing out your troops a bit as 20 cultists won't stand up to much shooting.

@spankingApe I always keep my cultists out of LOS, in reserves, or at the least in a ruin, they usual dont die or flee as long as i place them tactically, but with only 2 scoring units i know i lack in that department
How is your luck with Deepstriking oblits? I dont like doing it because you miss out on atleast 1 turn of shooting, i usuall run them up with middle to get within melta range

Congratulations!
Once again, hammering in the point that 2 drakes makes any list competitive.
It looks like I am playing the wrong army. 2 drakes are the only reason to play CSM. My csm army is worthless. All the khorne beserkers, thousand sons, chosen, rhinos, landraiders and regular marines cant even compare to a drake.
The logical option is to buy my 2nd drake, but I dont think I want to play an army that relies solely on 2 flyers. Having them both shot down may just mean certain defeat.

Well the reply wasn't helpful or on topic at all so what a waste of everyone's time. The wonderful thing about 40k is that people can use whatever models they feel like, if he wants to double force org so he can take 6 drakes, who are you to question him?
Anyway getting back on topic,
@theonlyaxso, well I tend to play it very risky by deepstriking too close to units for better positioning if it pays off. It's up to you to decide wether it's worth the turns in reserve. Also if your playing big guns never tire were heavies score then deepstriking them and sitting on the enemies objective with T5 is nice.

@Filch Dude ive made lists that work without drakes, you just have to have good synergy, you have to cover all your bases and not rely soley on a single unit, we dont really have a death star so we rely on balanced lists. Drakes still cant penetrate AV14 so you still need proper anti tank, the only viable anti tank that we have for long range is the lascannon and short range melta gun and various cc options...
CSM in my opinion are a close quaters oriented army and are best untilized in that way
I own 3 helldrakes, it doesnt mean i use them all the time, but when kids are fielding 6 wave serpents and 3 riptides, why not run 2-3 drakes, and honestly i like running 2 drakes over 3 because spawn + lord on bike is just nasty
@spankingApe thats a good point, ill deepstrike them in big guns, oblits would be a great objective camper in the enemy zone

At bigger points values I run two squads of 2. But seen as your at 900 I would have 2 squads of 1, that way you can split fire easier, it's up to you but defo take 2 Automatically Appended Next Post: Then again, a unit of 2 has more survivability......hmm decisions decisions haha

Having them both shot down may just mean certain defeat. well against infantry can you come up with a unit that is more effective than a drake? our heavy support is also quite beefy so most effective plan goes crack tanks burn gak go home profit should the burning not go as planned than you need to do the rest of the killing and nothing beats a group of marines with numerical superiority
