Subject: First Game: Cherry Popped with Necrons

Greetings!
This is my first non-lurker time on Dakka reporting my first full 40K Battle.
I have been a pretty avid WHFB player for close to 15 years now. Always avoided 40k as it seemed more "kiddie".
Well I finally got strong-armed into trying it out. I decided on Necrons because:
-they seem cheap $ wise. GW has already gotten a ton of my money in my Horde Beastman army and my non-Horde Horde Chaos Army.
-they are easy to paint. I am married now and have precious little time for layer after layer or flesh washes.
'nuff said.
The same buddy sold me his Necrons (he probably has about 9 40k armies). So my initial army was:
1 Illuminor Szeras
2x 10 Necron Warriors
5 Immortals
3 Wraiths
10 Scarab Bases
2 Triarch Spyders
1 Doomsday Ark
I stopped off at the local game story yesterday before playing and also picked up:
2x Destroyers
5 Deathmarks
My buddy brought Dark Angels and the enemy army consisted of:
Belial
3 x 5 units of Terminators (I can't remember exact armaments)
2 x 10 vanilla Space Marines. (each squad had a plasma gun)
3 Centurions
5 Scouts
Scenario:
Something about a "relic" in the middle of the board worth 3 VP's.
Deployment and Startup:
Dark Angels won the die toss and deployed first and went first.
DA kept all 3 terminator squads in reserve for deepstrike.
Turn 1
DA: 2 units of Terminators land next to my Doomsday ark (which was deployed on my far right flank where it had clearest line of site) and wrecked it with shooting/assault. Both units of Warrior's took a couple casualties from shooting. Scouts moved in swiftly to capture the relic in the middle of the game board. Centurions also moved into the middle ruins.
N: Scarabs charged forward on my left flank to engage Space Marines. Wraiths moved forward to engage centurious. Spiders provided twin link cannon fire to support necron warrior units with shooting. 1 Spyder, 1 unit of warriors and my 2 Destroyers moved toward my right flank to stop the terminator threat which had just pounded my doomsday ark. I did not accomplish much damage wise in my first round; dice went pretty bad.
Turn 2
DA: Scouts moved in to center and shot; next round they would have the relic. Left flank Marines shot up my Scarabs pretty good. Centurions assaulted my Wraiths. Right flank Marines took shots at my Warriors. 3rd Terminator unit dropped in also on my right flank. UGH! 15 terminators plus Belial caving in my right flank. The other 2 units of terminators tried to assault my Spyder on the right, but failed charges because the Doomsday ark was a crater (difficult terrain).
N: Dice gave me much love this turn. My Scarabs changed priority and instead of marines, turned right into center to assist Wraiths with centurions. My left Spyder was able to peak through a ruin window and twin linked on the Scouts who had picked up the relic. Immortals closed in on Scouts and fired at them. Szeras, Spyder, Destroyers and Warrior unit all focused fire on the 3rd groups of Terminators and had a great round of shooting, destroying all 5 of them.
Turn 3
DA: Scouts fired at Immortals and picked up the relic. Centurions in the middle steadily were beating down my Scarabs and Wraiths who were having having a hard time getting through armor saves. Left flank Marines were in bad position for shooting and didn't have much to do; their plasma gunner lobbed a shot in at my warriors in the middle and did some damage. Right flank marines shot up my warriors some more. Belial and 2x Terminatot units charged my right flank Spyder and it tied them up this round but they destroyed it.
N: I dropped my Deathmarks out on the battlefield, right about in the middle, of the board but close to enemy's deployment line. They "marked" the right flank marines. Left flank Spyder took pot shot at left flank marines. Scrabs and Wraiths continued to duke it out with Centurions. Immortals and Deathmarks shot at Scouts (who had picked up the relic), shot them down to 1, and Immortals assaulted them. My right flank warriors turned their guns on the right flank Marines but results were not impressive. 2x Destroyers and Szeras shot at the 2 terminator units and belial and killed a couple more. At that point i think there were 3 terminators in one unit and 2 terms + belial in the other unit.
Turn 4
DA: Left flank Marines continued to lob plasma over the center and into my warrior unit. Centurions beat down Scarabs/Wraiths in center. 1 Scout was locked in hand to hand with my immortals; neither side was accomplishing much of anything. Right flank space marines shot at my warriors. 2xTerminator units + belial moved left to get into combat with my center units.
N: Left flank Spyder took a long range shot at the left flank space marine plasma gunner as he was now the 1st model in his shooting range. I missed. Wraiths (no more scarabs) were down to 1 model vs. 1 Centurion in the center and still fighting, but I lost at the end of this round. Immortals still fighting in hand to hand with 1 scout. Warriors and Deathmarks all shifted fire onto the right flank marines with marginal results. Destroyers and Szeras continued to shoot at 2x term squads.
Roll of "4"; the fight continues.
Turn 5
DA: Left flank Marines moved in toward center to help recover the relic if necessary. 1 remaining centurion had finished beating down the wraith and was moving in to attack Szeras or Destroyers in center. Scout finally lost in hand to hand with Immortals. Right flank marines shot at wariors and killed them down to 1 models. Term units moved in closer to Szeras + Destroyers; shot and killed 1 Destroyer..
N: Left flank Spyder moved into position and got pot shot on last Centurion, taking him out. Immortals and Deathmarks shot at right flank marines with marginal results (damn 3+ armor saves!!!) 1 remaining warrior moved and picked up the relic. Taking cover behind ruin and scenery as best as possible. Szeras and Destroyer moved in front of warrior with relic to provide cover and force Belial and Terms to attack them before getting at warriors with relic.
I was really hoping the match would end at this point, as I was in possession of the relic. But no, a "6" was rolled and the game continued!
Turn 6
DA: Space Marines shot up and destroyed the last of my Immortals, though 3 Deathmarks were still on the board in enemy deployment zone. I believe it was a plasma cannon that took out my last necron warrior, who dropped the relic. Terminators shot up my last destroyer, but Illuminor Szeras lived through the match.
N: I was down to 3 Deathmarks, Szeras and my left flank Spyder, who by now was in the middle. The deathmarks shot at right flank marines, but failed to destroy them. Illuminor and Spyder shot at belial specifically trying to kill him, but no luck.
Game Over.
Final Points: 1 -1 (Draw)
Relic: 0/0
Warlord: 0/0
Most Kills: DA: 1
Troops in Enemy Deployment Zone: N: 1
So technically I tied him, even though I lost far more of my army. At the end he was down to:
1 Unit of 10 Space Marines.
1 Unit of 4 Space Marines
1 Unit of 2 terminators
1 Unit of 1 terminator + belial.

Given the army lists and the fact that this was your first game I'm impressed you managed not to lose horribly. Nice job!
If you're still open for ideas to expand your army I would recommend a little trick I used to create myself 5 extra crypteks and a D. Lord-
1) Get a box of Warriors, a box of Lychguard, a Destroyer and one staff (doesn't really matter which kind- I used an elven spear off of the snap fit models that came with a starter paint pack).
2) Assemble the 5 Lychguard with sword and shield. They're not very competative, but they look awesome. Notice that now that they're done you have tons of leftover Praetorian bits and 5 staves.
3) Take the bodies of 5 of the 12 warriors in the warrior box, assemble them with Praetorian heads (deathmark heads also work if you want more variety) and holding 4 out of the 5 Praetorian staves with the Rod of the Covenant tip bits (they are almost identical to the finecast Cryptek staves) and the extra staff (you'll want the 5th Praetorian staff for the D lord), throw in Praetorian bling bits as appropriate. Congrats! You've got yourself 5 blinged out Crypteks that aren't identical to each other (which is useful given all the Cryptek options).
4) Assemble your destroyer but replace the arm cannon with a warscythe (that last staff from the Lychguard kit) and bling him up with Praetorian bits- that's your Destroyer Lord!
Unless you go completely overboard with the bling you'll still have tons of Praerorian bits left over for future conversions as well (made myself a quad gun out of two Praetorian back pieces, a Praetorian forearm blade, 4 leftover Tomb Blade gauss blasters, some green stuff and a skimmer base).
Who knows? You might even end up liking the Lychguard and using them later on- they can be quite dangerous when dropped in via Nightscythe.

one thing i noticed, how were the terminators able to be dropped in first turn? being in reserve they shouldn't be able to come in till turn two at least. also his list wasnt legal. in order to bring in allies would have had to bring in a vanilla HQ. unless i missed something somewhere.... (or house rules)

They came in first because of a special rule called Deathwing Assault. The person using Deathwing Assault can nominate any number of Deep Striking units with the special rule Deathwing Assault to put in reserve, and must then write on a piece of paper whether they come in on turn one or turn two, they then automatically come in on whichever turn was specified. However, his army list was illegal. You can't use Centurions in a Dark Angels army unless you ally with Vanilla SM, at which point he should have to include a Vanilla HQ.

Sounds like you had fun and are breaking in a new army! He is probably condensing the rues for your first game as to not over complicate things, but do look into what he is doing. Dark Angles have no access to centurions without an allied detachment, not making accusations, just pointing it out.
For example note he said ''2 units of Terminators land next to my Doomsday ark (which was deployed on my far right flank where it had clearest line of site) and wrecked it with shooting assault'' He can't do this either, no unit AFAIK can assault after deep striking with the removal of heroic intervention. Just remember, no matter how fancy his logic is, or how much sense it would make, no one, and I mean no one, can assault on the first player turn of the game. I am standing ready to be corrected about that though...
