Water-Caste Negotiator

Hello fellas,

I was thinking of making some terrain with a Tau desert theme and thought a power generating facility would be kinda fun. I have seen the way the generators are depicted in dawn of war but I was thinking more like a power plant that would be large and provide multiple levels of cover. I was thinking of having pools of water to emulate a cooling system for this hypothetical facility and I was wondering a couple of things:

Fist of being, would a tau power plant be a large complex or a small unit like in dawn of war games.

If so, would a water cooled system be the way they keep temperatures low or would they use something else for coolant?

Tau using (what i assume to be) fusion type reactors. probably wouldn't need THAAAT much space.

as well from what i understand, tau are very much against permanent outposts and would rather desert an area than to fortify it (permanently) (im probably competently wrong)

ID expect any sort of power generator to be Relatively small/ portable but i could see a a few of them being double stacked or relayed to get your cover. (something in the line of 3" cubed size per generator is what im thinking)

Edit: Honestly cant remember where i read it. i though i saw it on ATT but im fairly sure im just mixing memories.

Not sure where you got that bit of info from about them deserting territory frivolously - the Tau are stalwarts of their expansion philosophy, they expand aggressively and then dig in for the long haul. Giving up territory is usually their last resort, since their spheres of expansion rely on, well, expansion.

I agree with your assertion that their equipment is compact and portable, it has to be in order to ensure their rapid deployment and movement as they expand across worlds and systems. I'd imagine power generators you see on battlefields are these types indeed, as their larger more permanent ones meant to supply enormous quantities of power are likely only on worlds deeper inside the empire, as they're safer far from the front lines, supply greater populations and rarely, if ever, see the light of warfare.

They don't hold ground like the imperium, and dislike trading ground for bodies, they will gladly desert a place if it will be overrun. They don't fortify like the imperium either, using hit an run tactics instead.

On topic, they use all sorts of power, and from their advances level of tech, I would say cold fusion reactors and suchlike. Plasma generators are mentioned as well. What the generator looks like depends on where it is. If it is in a tau colony, it could be one used by the earth caste for their work, or it could be a field generator, used by earth caste field maintenance teams to keep the fire caste's weapons and vehicles powered up.
Here is one person's idea (very well made too): http://eastern-empire.com/gallery/tau-terrain/
