They are modelled as two arms.

I have a peanut allergy. It's really inconsiderate.

Yeah, but so is pretty much everything twinlinked. Twinlinking weapons on a tau suit means taking two of them. Even better, it could be either two separate guns or one twin-linked weapon.

I'm aware that many twin-linked weapons are modelled as a pair, I was simply informing the OP how they are modelled.

I think a lot of confusion from this comes from the fact of the plural wording in the codex.

For example, the hive tyrant entry says you may replace any set of scything talons with

--Twin-Linked deathspitter (notice the lack of plural)
--Twin-Linked Devourers with brainleech worms (notice the plural for devourers)

The confusion comes with the first option not being plural, but the second option is.

Furthermore, the problem becomes more compounded with the fact that no other TL option for anything else is plural, and for wargear and upgrade options the non-TL devourer is always listed as non-plural (except in the case where it must be plural because you are purchasing for a brood and not a singular model).

RAI I think it is a repeated typo possible.

RAW I believe it means you can trade one set of scything talons for two devourers. After all, it does not say "replace a set of scything talons with a set of twin-linked devourers." It says "Replace a set of scything talons with Twin-linked devourerS"

Does the above seem shifty, yes, but, whether typo or no typo, I see it giving you permission to have TL devourers plural.

However, you also need to note that FMCs can only fire 2 weapons a turn, so if you take 4 of these, you still only get 12 shots from firing 2 of the 4. Also, if you take 2 of these and a heavy venom cannon, you either have to choose between 12 shots, or 6 shots and the venom cannon.

Even for Termagants - the only brood allowed to purchase Devourers - it uses the singular, while using Spinefists (plural) in the same upgrade option.
Warriors trade Devourers for Deathspiiter.
Shrikes trade Devourers for Deathspitters (plural).

No, it is a case of what sounds better

Lascannons vs lascannon. Deathspitter vs Deathspitters.

They pick what sounds more natural. So even though "cannon" is the multiple of "cannon" (sheep vs sheep) "set of twinlinked lascannons" just sounds better than "twinlinked lascannon"

Raveners are the other brood allowed to purchase devourers. But it looks like they made it inconsistent with the termagant entry, and used plural.

I had the same question around the concept of 'a pair of pants' being one unit of one but regardless of how much/little sense it makes, it is what it is.
