I always said that it was hard to buy stuff from outside the country (only started to interiorize myself bacause of MLP and Warhammer), but noy my country took a new step on this.

Every single package will be opened and checked up by 2000 governmental employees.

So far, the average custom's tax was a whooping 52% over the value of the declared value of the product AND shipping cost. Add to this that only 2000 employees will check every package now, and now when they reach the country, only the Gods will know when you'll get it. All this comes because of fear of packages with declared values that are inferior to the real one, so they'll be valuated by a "custom's expert".

Because of this, courier enterprises like DHL, Fedex, UPS and TNT among others, declared that they'll cease all shippings to the country. No one here uses standard shipping because "no tracking " literally means "missing package" once it's given to the local Mail when delivered.

And this kind of things are what our current president calls “deepen the (political/ideological) model”

This made me chuckle even though it has nothing to do with the topic. I'd chastise you and your government for silly border disputes, but I'm American, so, yeah, egg's on my face.

On topic: So every package entering the country is going to be searched by approximately 2,000 government employees? That's absurd. Ridiculous.

Indeed it is slowed.

When people is willing to pay a 52% tax because it's still cheaper than buying locally, there's something awfully wrong.

But while common sense says inner market needs to be regulated a bit, the ever hungry government likes the high prices because of the national wide 21% VAT

I think the Falklands only occurred due to the Regime at the time wanting to maintain power and gain the backing of the population.

It wouldn't be so bad if they were lined up in a straight line and having that dialogue.

Adrift within the vortex of my imagination.

Lets be civil, this thread isn't about the Falklands, or Malvinas in the likely opinion of the OP.

Dark, yep this looks bad.

First the idea that untracked post is just a gift for mail service thieves, this is a given in many countries and a growing concern in others, UK is basically honest, for now, but privatisation will mean corners cut on staffing and soon the post here in the UK will be a kleptomaniacs convention.

As for the excessive customs, its a wider application of protectionist policy. Argentina had a fresh start after that last debt writeoff, however President Fernandez is quickly squandering all the goodwill left in the business community. This is a symptom of a larger malaise and it looks like bad news for the Argentine economy.

When is the next general election and are the sounder heads waiting to take over?

It'll be on 2015, and sadly, the government over the last decade has been promoting a clientelist system.

The amount of poor people who depends on the government is alarming. And it's not like US welfare with food stamps and such, but you only get it if you respond to the party.

There were denounces this year on rural and poor areas because during a severe drought some families didn't received water because "they weren't in the [party] list". But those things ain't told outside the country and when a newspaper tries to is intervened.

This is worse than I thought.

Are you in effect saying that effective receipt of benefits in a country with a struggling economy is dependent on party affiliation. If so that is in essence feudalism, you are receiving and in reliance of sustenance from the state in return for allegiance. Argentina might have elections, the election might even not be rigged, but if a reliance on a specific party is a requirement for direct economic survival then there is no actual democracy there.

I only asked because his location had "Buenos Aires" in it and it looks like it's somewhat close to the border. At least it does on a map. Of course I've no idea about gas prices or bus tickets or such in Argentina.

Eh, most of us at Buenos Aires have european roots so we look "white" (though I dislike that label and prefer caucasian).

And while the Uruguay mailbox sounds like a good idea, we're allready being controlled for with the excuse of checking for money laundering operations so they'll know if we paid something outside the country.

Actually onto the last topic, in order to "stimulate the inner market" and "stop the cash flow otside the country" a 20% tax was impossed on every thing you pay outside the country (be it while being outside like at Uruguay, or buying stuff online) and since even with that it's still relatively cheaper than buying locally, lately it was announced it could be raised to a 30 or 40%.

That was kind of my point. The country looks to be on the verge of imploding and the Falklands is a big issue to unite the people... look at how much support there was last time noise was made about them.

Could be worse. They could approve the project of modification the civil laws adding the sketch article where private property (as houses and apartments) have a "social function" and will be subject to "common good", which in a, as mentioned, clientelist government, we can guess what it means.

I do get the impression that Cristina Kirchner just rants on about the Fawklands because she doesn't want address any real issues like unemployment (and apparently now, the postal service). But they are not the only country to do this. How come we get blindsided by stupid issues like fox hunting which effect all of about 12 people, and they talk about having a referendum on it. Then out of nowhere "Hey guys we're selling the Royal Mail! k thx!".

Fair enough, for the record in Europe we don't consider Hispanic a spate 'colour', Spanish guys are Caucasian too.

Regarding the film its not that the cast was Caucasian, but that they were almost all culturally US American not Latin American even in scenes set in Buenos Aires..

That isn't mere protectionism, it's protectionism with chaos spikey bitz.
This will cripple exports and hamper relations with neighbouring states, 30% tariffs wont even help Argentina short term, it will also lead to an explosion of smuggling, corruption and organised crime.
