With all of the pettiness and whining going on with the Republicans and Demacrats, I found myself thinking about some of the far harder times this country went through. The speeches these days seem designed to tear down or blow smoke, no matter which side gives them.
With that being said, I 'd like to present for your consideration a speech FDR made during a particularly frightening time in this country's history and preface it with the knowledge that at the time he made it, Germany and Russia were dividing Europe between them and had the number 1 and 2 militaries in the world. The U.S. was a distant 18 or 19, depending on where you look.

Say what ever else you will about him, this was the thing that was needed to be said. I remember my emotions upon hearing him speak during that time. It was a reminder that great accomplishments cannot be achieved without cost.
